Last year I retired and agreed to help a fellow build a project bike.  He began with one of the ugliest production bikes ever:  1982 Yamaha Maxim XJ750, complete with Atari dash.  Now, I know a lot of us on this forum have an aversion to grinders with cutoff wheels, yet in this case it was a mercy to cut off the ugly.  I warned him he wasn't going to tour with this hardtail conversion and he understood.  Fortunately it had only sat for 12 years with a full tank of gas and full carbs...

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but a fun project nevertheless.

Interesting project. As a touring/adventure type bike person I have always wondered what people actually use that type of bike for.

I would love to be enlightened.

Cheers

I suspect that the intent is to have a mobile platform for the straight pipes making it possible to annoy the largest possible number of people at 2 o'clock in the morning as the owner comes home from a drinking establishment.

The tank/seat relationship is also some sort of a mating signal to the females one may encounter.

Congratulations you managed to turn a practical eighties mid range tourer into a useless piece of junk, sorry I can't find anything good to say about it! Hang on maybe one good thing, you should get good mileage out of the swing arm bearings now.

Not too bad a horse but I think you'll find it will tend to buck a bit. A decided improvement on any Jamjar. Laughing
