Looking for the lock that bolts in to the frame.  Not concerned about matching keys or if the helmet lock works.  My seat lock is no longer holding the seat down.

Not sure if the earlier model (>late 85) is the same.

Oz would be good, its not worth expensive OS postage.

Al

Good used ones of those are hard to come by. People don't close the seat all of the way and the lock bar rides on top of the hook which eventually wears through and breaks off.

Thanks for the replies.  I've been offered a good working one now. Swapping a K1100 rear mudguard for it, so its just postage costs.

Thanks Grandad.

Replacement lock fitted and working fine.

I disassembled the bad one to find out what failed and to see if I could fit my key barrel so my key would work (though  never use it).

The barrel was easy to change (good), seat and lock pin now adjusted and working properly. Inside the lock there is a diecast lever with a hook on one end that secures the rod on the seat. The hook part of the casting had snapped off the main part of the casting.

Just a note on seat locks:

The usual cause of seat locks failing is the hook breaking.  The reason it breaks is that people don't completely close the seat and end up with the seat lock post riding on the top of the hook with a rider's weight on it.  This slowly but surely wears a groove in the top of the hook which eventually wears through enough for the hook tip to snap off.

How to avoid this happening:

ALWAYS make sure that your seat is fully closed and locked before riding. The first step is to fiddle with the rear hinge mounting bar and the adjustable threaded seat lock post to make sure that the post is aligned properly and that the post is adjusted to the correct length.

When closing the seat it helps to push the lock button/core in and push down on the seat. Sometimes a little rap with your hand helps it to get locked.  Then, before riding off, pull up on the seat a little to make sure that the hook is properly engaged.
