Hi fellow brick owners!
My name is Ian and I'm a motorcycleholic.
I bought my first K bike a few months ago with a deal I couldn't refuse. She's a 1987 K100 RT with only about 43K miles. I actually got her from my local dealer, who bought her from the original owner on a trade. I have much of the original paperwork.
Sorry to disappoint the purists, but I already have a 2014 R1200RT wasserboxer so I didn't need another bike with fairings. I specifically wanted the K because I am fascinated by the looks of ones that have been stripped down to showcase that motor and I already have a bike with full fairings so I am going minimal with this one. It's 30 years old and mine so it's going to be my project!
I have already taken off everything I could and replaced the headlight and front turn signal with LED pieces and replaced the handlebar setup with clip-ons. I got to know her better by replacing all of the fluids (except coolant), spark plugs, brake pads valve cover gasket and swapping front springs and rear shock with Progressives.
Still a lot of work to go to get this where I want it but I'm going to enjoy riding some before I take her out of commission again.
I'm interested in someday replacing the fusebox, gauge cluster and EFI with some aftermarket pieces so I will be studying what others do as much as possible.
If anyone needs spare 87 RT parts let me know!
