Somehow lost the right side turn signal lens from my K100RS out on the road somewhere last week.  Will need a new one to pass safety inspection.

Also trying to locate an RS mirror glass for a friend.

I think I can hook you up with one from the fairing of an '85 K100RT.  Though, now that I think about it, it would be pretty hard to lose the front, no?

I need the RS lens, RT is a different light.  Not hard to lose, I guess, when the corner around the screw is broken and you ride on the roads around here.   I need a lens that is not broken in the corner.

Both items are readily available from Motorworks from memory. The lens is cheap and the glass is more expensive.
My latest bike has no mirrors or indicators, but it's not a BMW and that's how then made them.

The parts have been on back order for over a year now with no expected future availability.  Max BMW tells me the international back order on lenses is 914 units.  I suspect that the tooling to make them is no longer in existence.  Maybe if everyone who owned an RS ordered them, BMW might do something.

I'll check with Motorwerks, but am not optimistic.

I might have an indicator lens here as I bought a pair of new ones a couple of years ago, only thing is that it will be black tinted rather than clear orange as the originals are.

Thank you for the offer Bob.  I am hoping to get an OEM lens in amber to match the left side.   I have just spent the afternoon sending queries to a number of the bigger bike breakers on eBay, and will be waiting to hear back from them as to availability of the part I need.

I have found a complete mirror pod with good glass and lens.  Quite a bit more than what I would like to pay for parts I don't need, but I might have a buyer for the glass to help lower my total cost.

I will keep you in mind, and will be getting back to you in a week or so.

As an aside, I have many contacts in the injection molding business, and if I can get my hands on the original tooling, even if damaged, could make some production runs.  With the reported backlog of parts it could easily be a worthwhile endeavor.  Only problem is: how does one crack into the BMW purchasing hierarchy to begin the search for the tooling.

I had no idea you couldn't get these any more, a clumsy oaf knocked my left mirror off and sure enough the lens broke right around the screw. There's a bit holding it but not a lot.

Thanks for the heads up, sure enough all three major parts suppliers in the UK are out of stock!

G'day Snod , have you got the mirror pods hooked up with elastic cord ? , they will save you damage inflicted by an oaf ( but not a drop ) , you simply attach a short piece of bungee cord internally between the two mirror pods , they will still detach if knocked but will not fall to the ground , this little mod has saved me many times

Has anyone come across any photos of RS models that have had aftermarket turn signals and mirrors installed?  It might be interesting to see what alternatives are available.

You could very easily fit LED indicators, either as a stick on strip or as like the small rear ones. It takes a 20 minute modification to the flasher relay and all will work fine.
If you use a stick on strip then you could reinstate the originals should the lenses become available again.
Something like this Strip
Or this: Pods
I have similar pods on the back of all of my bikes and on the front of the RS now that the fairing has been removed.

Bob,

Yes, I am looking into removing the mirror pods and going to LED signals and another type of mirror that may give me better vision to the rear.

Right now, if I do have to abandon the stock mirrors I'm liking something like you linked to and trying to find a bar end mirror that works with the weights and throttle lock.  The positive is that I think the fairing looks a lot better without those large mirrors sticking out.  Down side is that getting rid of them means more body work and the third trip to the paint shop in two years.  The thought of pulling the fairing off again is also a bit off putting.

I bought bar end mirrors from ebay for less than £10 a pair, one is for my 1967 250 Ducati and the other is on the K100. Because of the expanding plug fastening I had to take the bar weight off that side and remove the metal bits in there.
Why not just leave the standard mirror housing on the bike, and cover the original indicator lenses and mirrors with carbon fibre wrap? You should also still have the holes in the switch gear to fit standard naked K mirrors should you want to. Not sure if they will clear the fairing though.
In my opinion the front of the bike would look odd without the mirror pods. I assume that you know that 16 valve RS's had small extensions for the mirror pods.

No I have not, but I think I will do this! I'll be in there in a few months time (okay, maybe 6 months..) to find out why the last remaining horn has stopped working, I'll hook them together then.

It sounds so obvious..

I have a 6 inch bit of electrical cable with a ring tag on each end and secure the pods to the base with one each side. If there are no screws to fit the ring tag to then a self tapper will do the trick.

Been looking at retrofit alternatives, none of which look all that good to me.  Bar end mirrors would be able to give the best view to the rear, but I suspect I would lose my throttle lock and probably the heated grips, neither of which I want to give up.

Stalk mounted mirrors if they didn't hit the fairing don't give what I consider a usable view to the rear.  On my K75S all I see is my jacket sleeves.

I saw a photo of an RS fairing without the mirrors and it looked really good.  Very sleek.  It would be really nice if there was some way to build the turn signals in like they are on the RT/LT models.  Mod would take a lot of work to pull off.

Bottom line is that I have found a usable lens from an eBay seller, and although it is stupid expensive, if I can't find a cheaper/easier alternative, that is probably what I'll do since I don't really want to bother with modifying the fairing and going with aftermarket parts.
