...........and those smaller wheels Paul, were the first things that I spotted, unless the owner had fitted oversized brake discs !! I have a sneaking suspicion that this old tub will fetch quite a more than I'm willing to take a punt on, especially now that I've bought a load of materials and stuff to make all my own bits. Well, except for the wheels.

Well, Trevor, to put it into perspective, I paid Wasps £1100 for my forks, sub-frame and wheels 29 years ago! so the current bid doesn't seem a lot considering all the other bits that are included, but I suppose there's a load of hassle selling off all the bits that are not needed.
Anyway somebody will get a good buy.
Paul.

Back in '86 £1100 was a fair bit of dosh but in today's Brave New Brexit Britain that money won't even buy you the forks which are about £1500 with Bilsteins and some fancy wheels and the subframe will come to not much less. Although I'm reasonably well off (for a pensioner) I could not realistically justify spending that sort of money on a 30 year old K when as I'm over 72 now I'd be a quite very extremely lucky man to get 30 (or even 29!) years riding out of them, even though I don't plan to give up any time soon.
Ye Gods! I can imagine the road and 'elf'n'safety brigades all jumping up and down in horror - - - -SHOCK NEWS - - -100 year old man roaring around on a dangerous 75 hp motorcycle and sidecar contraption - - - by then probably the only thing anyone with a pension can drive will be a bubble wrapped elastic band driven 2mph buggy
Anyways, I'm still watching!

How do you compensate for the speedometer reading off a smaller wheel, giving a higher speed on the clock?

Adjust the speedo with the Karamba software.
I also installed a Sigma electronic bicycle speedo. The speed is dead on with the GPS.

I just adjusted the potentiometer inside the speedo by trial and error to get it to read the same as my GPS device. Generally, with 15" wheels, about 15° anti-clockwise gives a good result.
It's that 'skeleton' pot above the small gear in the pic.
Paul.
PS I did the same for my standard solo K to get the speedo to read accurately.

I did think about these when they first came up but I didn't have £459 spare. They've gone now - unsold, so my guess is they went as a private sale for considerably more than that. I also hear a rumour that it's possible that Hedingham forks may become available again in the near future. Not confirmed though as the current owner is quite sick.Crazy Frog wrote:Well, Ajays is well in his 80's and not longtime ago he was thinking of buying another bike.

Boo-hoo Good-bye wheels Good-bye forks ! It's back to the workshop and make all my own bits again, well what on earth else would I do with my time
Seriously Mike , I wish you the best of luck and I do hope that you win this old rig, at least it'll stay in the (K) family, and it'll give you a nice winter project to get stuck into - - just looks like a bit of rewiring from an electrical fire to sort and a bit of tarting up and it'll be a go-er.
That old chariot will make a nice chicken shed too!
Now where's my welding gear??

I noticed that the listing had ended early "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."
Read into that what you like - wad of cash on desk and avoidance of eBay fees or a genuine mistake? Or perhaps the seller read the comments on here and realised that they could possibly get far more dosh breaking it and selling off the sought after bits? I can't remember how much longer it had to run, but the price was still less than £500 when I looked yesterday, so maybe the seller thought his "no reserve" strategy was about to back fire on him and it was going to go for a song unless he pulled it first? Who knows what goes on inside the evil twisted mind of some ebayers?
I was keeping an eye on it (just out of interest) - At that price, I would have taken a punt, possibly, but respected Kando's first dibs and didn't want to go into a bidding war against a K100 forum brother!

I see that it's just come back again, I've read through the listing and the only thing that I can see to be different is the original post quoted mainland delivery for £120 ( a good price for a big old combo!) this new one doesn't.

I originally found the leading forks advertised on a Facebook sidecar group and posted the link on this forum. It was well advertised all over the world. No wonder that somebody made a private offer.
Now you have 9 days to put your bids for the complete burned sidecar.
Even a high bid could be worth the money (subframe, wheels, forks are something difficult to find)

Are some of us out of touch with the value of such things?
I expected sub 1k. Does anyone else care to own up to an expected and honest final value?
I know little about the value of outfits and didn't expect it to make much more than £1000.

A thing of that size could be turned into a good camping outfit for our longed for summer tour around Eire, my wife and I could sleep in that sidecaravan it looks long enough for us pint-sized folk!
Today, just a new subframe and forks won't give you much(if any) change out of £2K Mike, and those Wasp 15" wheels are like Rocking Horse poo being no longer made and a similar bespoke pair will cost around £800, so the winning bid was not excessive.
My tops was £1100 because I'd need to add the hire costs of a truck and fuel for a 350 mile round trip, probably £350.
A bit more effort would be required than your 'sympathetic wash and brush up' though !

Just watch on Ebay for the price of the chairs alone.... You can expect to pay an average of $4 to $5k (in N.A.) just for a chair in decent shape. If you add all the mods + the bike, leading forks, a sidecar easily cost over $10K. This is not a cheap bike, but so much fun to ride. I am at the point of thinking selling my 2 solo bikes.
I don't need the money, but I haven't used the solo bikes for 2 years. I will see in the spring.
Did I said that you get hooked on sidecars?
