Very sorry to hear that Mike. I went through a similar period back in April as well with the big C scare. Came though okay, as well as okay can be. 

We have quite a good public awareness scheme regarding cancer for the over 50s.  Movember is one of them.

I wish you all the best for the future and hope that we on the forum can assist if possible.

Personally I am within the high risk group. Aged above Forty, with a family history , and spending hours in the saddle.
take the time to get checked, PSA ( blood checks ) are available, beats the digital check Rossko. 
well worth the comfort of knowing  and calms the family.

I hope all goes well.

My work health scheme recently set up an on-site meeting about this (50 guys in a room) and then screenings for anyone at risk (which is everyone over 50 !!). I went through with it and as you describe the Rectal examination is interesting my results were ok but if this is caught early a lot can be done. We also support Movember and I can only say if you are over 50 have these tests.

Mike, well written screed! All the best for the future. I went through the same process about 10 years ago. Symptoms..difficulty and reduced stream urinating. Went to the GP...finger up the arse..."sorry, mate. Its quite hard, need to see specialist, most likely the dreaded PC". Biopsy revealed nowhere near as savage as yours. Unable to get definite advice on the best way to treat it, only all the options. Eventually one specialist said "if I were you, I would get it chopped out, not burning any bridges, allowing later radiation treatment if required..." Only major downside was complete loss of libido, but I've managed to live with that. About 10 years on, the PSA is still very low (0.1 to immeasurable) indicating that it hasn't spread.

My dad was the one that got me into bikes, he started with Japanese bikes and then to restoring BSA's...He had a lot of health problems from when he was a kid and ended with Prostate, hit's home for me.

Not good news Mike but make the most of what you get.
A friend of mine was diagnosed 15 years ago with is and was given 12 months max, when anybody asks how come he says well to start with it wasn't part of the plan so it got put to one side to deal with later and I haven't got round to it yet.

Your eloquence sort of comes thru' your rebuilt threads but in a "nuts and bolts"
kind of way. That blogsite is moving reading and confirms what I suspected from 
"knowing" you here.

I feel really sorry to hear the bad news. However, I want to commend you for your blog.
This is very very informative, and an eye opener for everybody.

I wish you all the best of luck, and please don't give up. (11 years ago, my wife was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. She was stage 4 and given a maximum of 14 month life expectancy. Guess what, she's still here complaining about my bikes  ). You see, you must be positive and trust your doctor.

I won my fight in '98. Regretfully we all know people we've lost to this illness, but little about the numbers that survived. Maybe we survivors should speak up more, but that's not in my nature.

Mike, as a tip from one who has been there, discuss it often with your direct family; sometimes it more scary for them than for you, but most find it difficult to start that discussion.

MikeP an excellent read despite the subject matter. I would like to thank you for sharing this with us your kindred spirits if you will....we are all "mature age" and with this often comes challenges that try our resolve.

Not going to get all melancholy about it mate as we all have similar acceptance that we are all 99.9 % likely to meet our maker one day, there was this one bloke over 2000 years ago who beat the odds but this is a very rare occurrence.

I too remember lining up with dozens of others for an " inspection" of the very intimate variety and was ever so pleased to find that the young lady with very small hands would be carrying out my undercarriage examination...I did turn my head over my shoulder and suggested that she should buy me dinner now....I guess she had heard it before...my friend was not so fortunate his doctor although a female had the largest hands I had ever seen on a man or a woman she was from Latvia and had built boats there I believe....when she walked in we all looked at each other and her huge man hands.....as one of ours walked away with her, his head bowed.

Anyhow my friend please do continue to share with us at is not just good manners but we are genuinely along for the ride and I haven't heard that fat lady sing yet so keep the info coming.
