Hi all Kelvin hear am Irish and living in Lancashire in the UK. I have had a good few bike Suzuki Gs750 Harleys ect as i like choppers and bobbers. I got it into my head to get a touring bike of sorts anyway bought my first BMW about 2 months ago its a 1990 K100LT and I think its brilliant! Very Happy.
I got it for a good price and put it through its MOT which it passes first time! i have done about 500 miles on it some of which was a trip to Wales at short notice and it did brilliant i was realy impressed drove for 2hrs straight no problems and very comfy too Cool. The more i read about these bikes the more i think that they are the best kept secret! I have yet to do work on it I need to give it a good service and i have a warning light coming on when i break or it stays on if i put the lights on but all lights work? anyway i think i will be holding on to this one even though it has 94k on it! hope to talk to some fellow k100 fans thanks K.

Welcome mate (that's easier to spell).
94K, that's nothing apparently. The experts will be along to advise re the red light, but for now, just enjoy the ride.

Hi Kelvin. WelKome to the forum. Yep, 94k is not even run in as they say. Make sure your battery is in good condition, keep all your connections clean and secure and keep the maintenance up to her and you'll have lots of trouble free biking.
Enjoy

My first K was a 92 K100LT and it opened new doors too.

Red warning with triangle: Light constant on could suggest a failed brake switch. Your brake light is working as you say but the front and rear brakes are two different switches and you need both to be working to get the warning light to go out. Recheck them separately, use front and rear brake separately to see if they individually run the brake light. A faulty brake switch wont. The front one is easy to remove at the lever end, check out the pin as it does go bad. Other end is under the petrol tank which has to come off to access it. Rear one is at the brake pedal and can be a bit hard to remove but the connector is accessible at the frame tube by the right hand removable panel.

Second possibility is alternator light which does glow on the LT at night especially when you use the brakes. Mine had always done it but never had issues. Butt his will come on when you turn on ignition and should go out when you rev the engine. It does not go out if you simply start and tickover. At tickover after it has gone out you will get a glow if you use brakes or turn on lights. Important and very important is to make sure your earths are all good. you have one above the gear elver on the left, a little tab cast on tot he gear box. You have multiple earths under the tank and its a tank off job to access it.

While you are at it replace your fuel lines unless you know them to be recent. Cheap, a little fiddly to get them all but they go hard and crack and tank removal can be their last straw. Make them a little longer and you will next time be able to access sunder the tank simply by lifting it.

Check out the portal page..what to do if you have bought a K.

Kelvinator??????? Man that's Kool.

Also, don't be worried about miles, I bought the 92LT with 92k miles on it. They do really high miles without any engine issues.

It will comfortable get you over to Ireland and back. Sounds like you know your way so no need to stop when you get to the wet coast of Wales.

Just try changing the brake bulb. even thou its working. the bulb might be on the way out. Worked for me.
Also If the abs lights stay flashing, don't panic.. its just telling you your battary is nackered..
Get a juicy battery, a bulb. fresh oil ( don't ask what kinda oil), you'll get hit with a thousand suggestions. And you'll be good to go..
And if your handy, its worth doin the splines...not to bad of a job.
Enjoy.. you should pop over here for a get together sometime.. Get some decent Guinness into ya

+1 on just changing the bulbs.

Do take up Reg's invite and check out the Wild Atlantic Way. Especially if you like camping.....

Also, don't ask which kind of Guinness either. There's only the right one and you have to come over here to really enjoy it. They tried making Guinness Light years ago, it earned a new slogan 'Guinness Light Sh**e' and proved to be a monumental flop along with the Hoover free flights escapade.

Well if you get even half way down the country let us know.

But there are some nice roads around Belfast too....Mourne Drive....North Antrim Coast and Torr Head....and of course Newcastle on a Sunday morning. Comberjohn takes his dog for walkies Sunday morning goes to Newcastle for Sunday morning tea and scones and well worth meeting up. You might get Dai along too.
