once again , thanks to all for the great support.

Waz , naked or Kafe are low cost possibilities once the legals are sorted.
I have a bikini fairing with high screen that has been awaiting installation , which I picked up from Malcoops.
It will allow for better ventilation and retain upper body protection.
brief  inspection shows lights are functional , rear wheel is free and rotates without issues, gear selector is straight and intact , brakes are working , clutch is working with slight stiffness.
Crash bars seem to have worked.
A slight misalignment (twist) in the front forks , about 3-5 degrees, Right fork leads the left by about 30-50mm, but not showing signs of being bent.
Handlebars will most likely need replacing . signal clusters appear ok , no cracks.
rear frame loop made have been stressed , as the seat is elevated and the latch is under tension and resists opening.
head light mount (tree) is twisted off centre .

If the forks are twisted the triple clamps are bent and seeing as they are forged and heat treated alloy there is no way I know of getting them straight without the chance of breaking them or at very least a fracture in the alloy.

still a lot of inspecting yet Rick , this is just a glance , but promising by the looks .
I start the legal process tomorrow , follow ups with police and their reports ,
Motor Accident Authority forms were given to me by the hospital , and have been just about completed , saw the Drs today for their bit.
CTP notification is part of the MCA , this does not necessarily mean the bike is attended to, it may be a separate claim once I receive the drivers details tomorrow from the police, and contact his insurers.

Not sure how this works but after my off 18 months ago the forks showed a significant off line issue, looked like I was steering left.

Handlebars were definitely bent, showed up when I got new ones. Went to go about forks when my BMW friend mentioned Ks generally would go slightly off in such situations and that the stanchions and triple tree were possibly ok. Taking out stanchions and realigning were likely to cure it unless the triple tree was bent/damaged. I was amazed when he said how easy it was to twist the forks and reminded me of my old 125 when you could slacken everything off and rotate/twist the forks to align the front wheel and then torque it all up straight. Lets just say I said nothing to my local dealer and dropped off the bike for new tyres. When I got it back the fork alignment was spot on. But 30-50mm is very significant and I think a lot more that 3-5 degrees. Replace triple tree but also means new head bearings. Now a chance to get that K1100 front end you have always wanted.....

Mine was a very low speed incident and the bike was virtually stationary when pushed over from the side. Given that I was wanting to keep the bike and not write it off this was a big influence. Loss adjuster just agreed the max he could allow, short of writing it off which was ok with me.

Elevated seat is indeed suggesting some bending at the rear but it may only be the portion to the rear.......but it carries the seat and any pannier mounts etc. May affect rear shock position so important to have a good look at this part.

I had a look at the motions of the rear wheel yesterday .
Gear selector works fine , however there is free movement between some gears , especially between 4 - 5.
Not sure that this is normal , as it is common in other vehicles. It may be possible the drive system is kaput, won't know until it is pulled apart.

I have now obtained the drivers details , and have made contact with his insurance provider .

- Police will be conducting a review of his licence due to previous similar incident. He will have to sit a medical to retain his licence .
- upon checking with the RMS ( motor registry office ) , they leave it up to the insurance company to determine the vehicles roadworthinesss.
-Driver says he is fully covered for damages to bike and medical costs.
- expected outcome will be , that insurer will deem repairs too expensive and write it off . whether that be a repairable write-off , I'm not sure.
-As the bike is currently in my possession , at a cost of $475aud ( towing fee from accident) and I have saved them daily storage fees at the towyard , I will ask for the bike to be offered back at no charge. If they haggle , I will charge them storage dated from pickup from the towyard. That should sort it.
Not sure that I would be totally comfortable riding the bike again with a possible stressed frame. The 87' RT may need resurrecting.

Makes sense Ed, the 87 would go fine in the interim, Last time I was there I left the wiring harness and some other bits. What else would it need to fire up?

Ed They cant write it off. They can only write of a vehicle that is insured with them. You do not have a contract with them. The insurance of the other vehicle is to cover damage to others property and has no clause to let them write it off. Go and get a good lawyer otherwise the insurance company will give you a roysl run around and cause lots of grief and screw you over good and propper.

PS You already own the bike Ed they cant sell it to you.

I remember we gave the RT a kick Keith , with no success . I still have all of your bits n bobs in the bag , I even tried using the RH switchgear to rectify the lighting issue in Ol Blue , but it later became apparent it was the LH gear that was at fault , as featured in the recent video following the accident.
Rick , until I talk properly with the drivers insurance (AAMI) , I'm still not 100% as to Blue's outcome . As you say , the bike is still legally mine , I'm expecting it will only be if they make any offer of payment, that the value of the bike and ownership will be in question.

Ok, I have a left here as well, somewhere. I would expect that the insurance Co can only pay you out. If they don't decide to rebuild your bike, they will surely decide to pay you some sort of recompense, well short of the rebuild price. The bike will be your either way I'd expect. Rick would be right in his advice to seek legal advice.
