I suspect the ignition switch with this one but before I pull it apart I thought I'd ask for other suggestions;
-first time: started and cut out again almost straight away on the Snowys trip. It would crank over but no go. I turned the kill switch off and on, no effect. Then the ignition switch off and on. Started immediately, hasnt done it again since.
-second time: friday this week. Clock missing segments. I stopped, did some stuff, then restarted. Clock came good.
-third time: yesterday and this morning. No clock at all. Went for a ride. Restarted, clock is now all good.

So the question. Is this the ignition switch starting to play up, or a bad connection in the instruments, or something else? Its not serious yet, but is starting to develop.

Sure sounds like the ignition switch Phil but the clock probably needs cleaning as well. You can get the LCD of the circuit board 4 small screws I think then clean the contact surface with a soft white pencil eraser on the LCD and circuit board then replace it. It will probably work well again for another 30 years.

Thanks Rick. I'll start there and see what happens.
