Hey Pat!
You should do the batterie reading 2 hours or better a day after driving or charging, so the reading is more realistic.
12.54 Vol sounds like a good healthy batterie. Could have up to 12.8 - 13 Vol if super duper.

If a batterie is faulty or OK you can normally only test under load, meaning ignition is on and the motor is of.
But the normal test should do it for you.
