Riding to work this morning, bike cut out, I think I felt a little clunk round by my right foot. While sat at the roadside I noticed the ignition lights going a little dimmer, like the lights where being switched on and off, also the fuel pump sorta pulsed a few times. All I've managed to do is check the fuse's, all fine. The bike lights up like all is well, it just keeps on turning over, the battery has plenty of charge in it.
Up until this point the bike has been faultless, typically I just put my last £20 in the tank and had to borrow the bus fare till payday, thankfully that's on Friday!

Check the electrical connection to the fuel tank. Your post doesn't state the year but the early 1984 fuel tank connection is front left, later ones are rear right. The pins can cause problems resulting in no fuel....You can prise the pins open a little and make it a tight connection.

Unless it was diesel you put in......

Been up to it with some spanners, there is a healthy spark. Fuel to the fuel rail but nothing to the plugs. I'll have a look at the connection you mention. Its a 1990.

Fuel level sender connector is a good place to start.

Another potential cause of instant cutout is a flaky ignition switch.

If it only does it once warmed up then Hall Effect Sensor is a likely cause.

Hello All. After a little more delving....
Its getting fuel, the injectors are working fine.
Its only sparking on the outer 2 pots, they are fed by the same coil. The other coil isn't getting any juice to it, swapping the wiring around, swapping the feeds transfers the fault, so the coil is working fine. Following the brown/black wire, it might be purple/black, anyway following it back to the cdi and beep testing it shows the wire is intact, pointing to a fault in the cdi unit itself....
...Doesn't it?

Any more ideas folks?

From your description it would almost have to be the wiring between the coils and ICU or the ICU itself. Check the wiring first because the 2-3 firing is what triggers the ECU to fire the injectors so far more likely to be the wiring.
Does the tacho work it works off the same trigger.

Poor connections at the ICU due to plug not properly seated or corrosion??? Pretty common. Try some Deoxit and make sure it's seated properly. The ICU is a reasonably reliable unit so if its not the plug connection I'd start looking at the other side of the ICU first. One of the hall sensors could be dud or more likely you've got a poor connection at the HES connector (under the tank, R/H side). See Bert's diagrams on the troubleshooting page. All the pin-outs for the plugs are there.

It's not a hall sensor because the injectors are firing and they trigger from 2-3 hall sensor

That's correct Rick but as far as I know the Jetronic does receive signals from both sensors on pin 4 via the ICU. It then divides the frequency to get 2 injection pulses per cycle (720°).
My feeling is that its an arbitary process, as all the signals come to the FICU on one wire, there's nothing to say which signal is from what sensor. Just my thoughts.

Thanx everyone, its all giving me a little glimmer of hope! The troubleshooting guide is printed off and will be with me next time I get to the unit to have another go at it, tomorrow hopefully.
My Mate has had a go at it and he checked all the connections under the tank and all looked good.
Keep the ideas coming, I cant afford/stomach another week on the bus to work!!

Well finally got it running again, replaced the hall sensors and it fired straight up, much to the delight of its new owner.
