I get most of my parts used on eBay.  New I usually go to Max BMW who is also on the interweb.  They are in New Hampshire.  Don't know if they ship to the Great White North(GWN).

I do all my own work.  Most of the routine tasks on these bikes are fairly user friendly.  There is an independent shop about 40 miles away that has a lot of the official tools for the tougher jobs.  I am pretty sure that if you ask around you will find someone who can do the jobs that require the special tools.

Electrical bits and pieces like starter motor and alternator brushes, relays, pump bits etc etc
http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/BMW-K-Parts-s/60.htm

Some of the service parts are standard compatable parts from other vehicles. Just got to shop around.

We musn't forget the UK suppliers, who have a fair few of the bits we need for our beloved Ks. They are Motorworks, Motobins and James Sherlock. Add the 'co.uk' bit where appropriate and you'll be laughing. In Los Estados Unidos, there's Beemerboneyard, the aforementioned EME in Colorado for fuely and electricky bits, and Repsycle in Ohio for used.

Dunno if he's up and running since his relocation but Kbikeparts.com (Seattle) will connect you with our esteemed Duck for the odd secondhand bit. I can provide new OEM parts from the Tacoma area but will (technically, legally according to BMWNA dealer agreement) only be allowed to post them up to the frontier. You'll have to have a US-based PO box near there.

HERE'S the BMW spezialist near your locale. We used to sell them OEM parts several years back but they sorta went underground for a while. I dunno about their rep. They too, had their shipments sent to the border.

I've used bikebandit.com and realoem.com with good luck.  At minimum you can locate the part name and number, even if they don't have it.  I've found having a 'muricanmailbox helps in all cases including eBay.  Has saved me more in postage than the cost of driving to the border, plus it saves untold hassles with duty etc.  I have a NEXUS card (trusted traveler) so going over the border is a snap in both directions.
