A friend has a mid 80's K75 and doesn't like the short handle bar ergos and so rather than sell the bike I'm wondering if K100 RT LT bars can be easily swapped over?... If so then no doubt the cables and front brake line will also need doing. Anyone done this before?

Hi I fitted RT bars to my 75s sometime ago. From memory, the only thing needed was a longer brake line. All other cables fitted but the clutch cable needed rerouting a bit. All in all, not a too difficult job. I too found the seating position too low and now prefer the upright position. Cheers Tom

Bought my K75s earlier this year with the conversion already done. If you need any specific info let me know. The only problem I have found with the 'S' conversion is the wind really hits your upper body badly even with a taller Power Bronze screen fitted otherwise very comfortable.

Here's my experience: my K100RS came to me with C model bars which aren't as high or wide as RT bars, and even with those bars the original RS cables were usable but pulled tighter than I liked.  Going back to RS bars took all the tension out of the control cables.

I can't imagine putting the even higher and wider RT bars on my K75S without having to also go to the longer RT/LT cables and brake lines.  There is a reason BMW has several different part numbers for cables across the product line.  While the shorter cables might work, I would be concerned about strain shortening the life of the cable.

As Point Seven Five mentions...you need the RT/LT cables and front brake line.

The electrical connections on the switchgear, front brake switch, choke cable, clutch lever electrical switch etc will need to be freed up from under the fuel tank as they are long enough. This needs to be done carefully to avoid pulling some apart accidentally. Check all is good before refitting the fuel tank.

If the bike is a stock K75S, wouldn't it need a different switch pad to enable installation of an RT/LT or C bar? A K75C pad would work. Anyway, this MB.C post might interest somebody.

Forgot to mention the switch pad.....yes you need the RT/LT impact or switch pad too. I don't know enough about the K75 pads.

and just to confuse even further I got a set of 84 clocks of an 84RS. When I went to put them on the 84RT they wouldn't fit. They came with the mounting plate and because it looked all nice and uncorroded I thought I would be clever and use it too. So I took the mounting plates off, the RS one had 2 tabs to the front and the RT one didn't. So I cut off the 2 tabs that were on the RS one. But confusingly both were stamped with the same BMW part numbers even though they were different and not interchangeable. The clock sets themselves were identical.

Excellent feedback. Thanks gents. The K75C options sounds like it could be the better option in this case.
Cheers. Smile
