I recently serviced the rear brake master cylinder of my K75S and today I reassembled the rear brake line and RHS foot rest plate. I had previously unscrewed the connector for the rear brake stop light but I had tucked the lead away, out of sight while working on the bike. Out of sight - out of mind; it's true! Now I can't remember how the wire for the brake light switch clips on to the frame of the bike, although I think I know where the connector screws into the brake pedal. I can't see any obvious clues so maybe I need to take the footplate and brake pedal off again. I should have made notes or taken photographs I know, but if anyone has a line drawing of how the rear brake light switch is installed, I'd be grateful to have sight of it.

Cheers, Chris

chris the cable tucks in behind the rear master cylinder resevoir and follows the top of the side foot plate with a couple of clips ...and drops almost vertically to the switch near the master cylinder itself .

sorry i didnt take pics of this part specifically when i did a refurb recently .

but hope this helps

Thanks Charlie, that should do the trick. I'm learning a lot about things I previously never gave a second thought. When screwing the switch into place on the brake pedal how do you avoid twisting the wiring? Is it necessary to trace back to its connector and pull that apart, or is there an easier way?

Regards, Chris

Chris, you can disconnect the other end, screw it on and re-connect.

Or, what I do (the lazy way...) is twist the cable a few times in the opposite direction and then screw the switch into place. The cable will un-twist and all should be good.

sorry to butt in here....

i have a sticky rear brake light switch and have tried cleaning and lubricating it on the bike to no avail. I am going to have to remove the switch and try clean it by soaking it in a mild cleaing solution.

can you guys perhaps tell me where the plug connector for the switch is on the bike. I would imagine it is on the right side of the bike, but if I may where exactly is the plug located?

many thanks

RS - you will need to remove the right footpeg assembly, switch is tucked in there.

found the switch but where does the plug for wire the switch plug in, is it under the tank or does it connect straight into the BMU?

hmm...... its not there? maybe previuos owner moved it? thanks I was hoping it would be more simple.

None the less, i am off to bed will have a go tomorrow after work.

was thinking - How could we go about doing a fuel consumption thread were we could post our real life fuel consumptions so we can all get a realistic datum for this , something to include make/brand/ octane rating of fuel, number of litres and distance covered?

cheers for now

Should normally be a two pole connector, with two yellow wires at the switch end
and one green/black and one gray/green wire at the harness end.

Hi, re fuel monitor, there is a German site with info: spritmonitor.de

I have my info in my signature on some fora, but haven't been able to get it done here yet.

Here's an example what you can show:

morning all.

thanks for that - i had a look at the site- very good.

if i go according to that then my bike is running as per normal fuel consumption. I suppose it is a heavy bike and i am a big bloke too.

thanks again.

will go through the bike again and try to fix up the rear brake light.

Hi Chris, You're not alone mate. I had the very same Senior Moment with my bike but hadn't got around to asking yet. I was wondering about disconnecting or pre twisting too so it went on the back burner while I did something else. I took a heap of pics before I pulled bits and pieces off but obviously not enough. I'll have to go look now.

Marty.

I found the connector thanks- it pushed all the back into the bike between the frame.

I took it out tried to clean it up as best as possibble but unfortuneatly can only get the switch to work if I pull the little plunger out right to the bottom. It is quiet stiff to pull it to the last section to the end and it almost gets stuck there- so I assume the switch needs to replaced.

I am trying to locate the BMW part number for the switch on Real OEM.com to no avail. Do any of you know what the part number is so I can get availability info from my local BMW Motorrhad dealer.

many thanks

very much so.

to me that is what biking is all about- riding and repairing yourself.

although I would LOVE a brand new bike, I can't see my repairing Ethos being able to be carried through in its entirety

Really? A new bike?

What, ride it everywhere, park it and look at it? No need to touch it with a set of spanners?

How boring would that be! Wink

Exactly.........

some of my mates dont get it, they are always moaning about always being in debt with the money borrowed to buy the bikes- fortuneatly I dont have that and I might use a bit more petrol than they do when on runs , but yes I try to ensure that my bike is always "ready to ride", and so far have only ever been left behind on the road with an old bike. ( that was because of a fuse box on my suzuki that melted as a result of the regulator packing up- there was nothing I could have done about that- but I still got home!)

I like working on tmy bikes.

Inge,
I saw that you discussed the rear brake pedal wiring via two-pole connection. While reassembling the bike I have lost the connection for the switch. Looking at the book it shows a connection that is tied to the frame (below the seat). I must have tucked it away and can't see it. Do you know where the connection is that comes directly from the switch (brake pedal)? Thanks.

Paul
