"These bikes will go forever with very little maintenance required" often translates to "I didn't spend anything on maintenance."

$5000, really? With 150000 km showing and incomplete, chopped, someone's idea of a custom. That's a sub-$2000 bike at best. You don't get the reward of a high price because of what you 'put into the build'.

How come all these individually customized bikes look the same. Sort of reminds me of The Life of Brian's "We're all individuals."

yeah  probably is ...for the 10 - 20 ks ride to the café ...

have a brother that bought a sports bike recently ...and took it for a ride from his home in Newcastle region to my mums place at Lismore ...not too far from here ....he is agonizing the return journey before he starts

nice bike though ...for a Honda (was a great price and in pristine condition )...and cheaper than the chopped k ...outright ...hands down




and still a heap prettier than that thing ...sniffle.... how could they do that to a k  and then sell it ? barstards, no respect at all ... don't have issues with one chooses to do ...but not my kettle of fish

Even earlier than that, Rick. I think it was Bike magazine that had the original cartoon in which I still remember. Five bikers standing around all wearing cutoffs and hooped sweatshirts and one's saying 'and then I got to thinking; if we're all individuals, how come we all look like the same individual?'.

Something to do with having owned a Honda 500-4 in another life......

After Marg pranged her K75 I got a really good fairing from a guy in WA for $350 and it was even the right colour.
He was building a cafe racer as far as I know.  It saved me a heap of work repainting and fixing any of the fairings I already had.
It sure has lead to a heap of body parts for sale.

Bought another low seat from a guy this week.
Perfectly good RT75 made into a cafe.
His fairings are on gumtree. almost new

I wondered what happened, I was thinking of buying that seat for a spare. I bought the sheepskin seat cover he had.

I had a VTR1000 like that for a few years. Other than the fuel range it was a great touring/long distance bike, wasn't uncomfortable at all.  What was surprising was how much better it was that the bike that went before; the R1100GS with seat made from concrete. The biggest mistake was selling it and keeping the R1100R which then cost me a bomb.

My son brought over his 'new' 2005 VFR 800 Vtec last weekend.

So a little research. Should have seen the look on his face.

VFR 249kg wet. K100RT 253kg wet.
VFR seat 805mm. K100 seat 810mm.
VFR turning radius 5.6m. K100 radius 3.7m.

A little more research revealed the naked K100 is 14 kg less than the RT so 239 kilo wet or 214kilo dry. K75 is 229 kilo wet.

No wonder this café racer conversion is popular.....especially when you consider the power characteristics of the K. 4th gear on twisties is extremely invigorating.

Hah, how funny is that.
I got the seat for my old RT that is hopefully going back on the road soon ish.
