Welcome from northern Ireland.
If you have a look at the middle of the Portal page and click on 'So you've bought a K100'.
There's a link on that page about what to look for when buying a K100.
Any reason why it has to be an '88 and which model are you after?
Bear in mind that it's going to be almost 30 years old and may need some work, too.
If you find one, let us know the details. You'll get plenty of feedback on specifics to look for.
Good luck.

Welcome to the forum......

Of course we are all biased as we love the K. A lot of Most people end up with more than one, a condition referred to as Kpox. At least you have space for that.

On the home page there is a section on what to do if you have just bought a K. It will give you some pointers. If you take a read of that and then come back we will give you more information on what to check for. Not sure if there is anyone near you who might take a look for or with you, but there are different models.

Depending on year and you should be guided more by condition, appearance and specification than year. Don't be put off by high miles as the engines last well and low miles can cause other problems or indicate a bike was off road for a long time which can also cause some problems. Many are and then brought back and that's ok too as long as things are done right. A K in regular use and with high miles if well maintained will make a good buy. 100-150,000 miles are not uncommon and should not put you off.

Everyone here is very helpful and knowledgeable and willing to share.

WelKome to the forum forceps.

If you just want to buy/fix/ride then buy one that looks ok cosmetically. It will become a love affair and you'll want her to look at least be a little bit presentable when you take her out on a date. Laughing

Fairings can be a big problem especially if the bike has been left outside for some time and they can be hard to replace especially the compartments and infill panels.

Cheers
