Just bought an '83 K100 to restore to operation.  '05 R1200GS is my daily rider. Had an '02 K1200LT in the last, as well as a '72 R75/5.  And one or two non-BMW motorbikes.

Welcome....as you can see I also have an 83 K100RS.....and two 84 K100 as well. My 83 RS was 17 years in a boat shed.....

There are quite a few differences between 83 and 84 not picked up in the buying or acquiring of parts. Very specifically you need to watch the Brembo brake calipers. These Brembo brakes are shared with R bikes, Ducati and moto Guzzi. But on the very early K I discovered the piston sizes are different so the caliper repair kit needs to be the one for the R bikes and not the early K100. They are opposite way round from the R bikes so the left front on the R bike is right front on the K bike.

I reckon change out the push button gas tank cap for the later one and get a rebuild kit for it too.

What are your issues with the early gas cap? (Just curious.)

Thanks for all of the welcoming messages!

And 92KK 84WW Olaf thanks for the heads-up on the brakes and gas cap. I'm a total newbie on this bike and picked it up on a whim over the weekend, so all advice is very much appreciated.

They could have something to do with this caution from MaxBMW's parts fiche.

I have one on my 95 K75. No issues with it. It's even chromed and it's convenient to not need a key,  I got it for $30 shipped on Ebay without a key but the key for that bike works with it. (Dumb luck.)

I have "the cup" on that bike under the right rear of the tank. Maybe that helps keep it from vapor locking.
