Hey guys

I'm new to the K bikes and BMWs in general. I've just purchased my first. It's an '85 K100RT. I'm 29 and located in Los Angeles. I've been riding my whole life. I got a YZ85 when I was 2 and a half but lived on the tank of my dad's TT500 before that. I grew up on top of the Ortega in southern Orange County in a family that raced so bikes and cars have always been a part of my life.

I bought this K100 with the intention of converting it into a cafe/track bike, but it runs pretty good and is the only bike with a fairing I've owned, so it has become a great commuter over the last month. I have about a 50 mile round trip to and from work each day. This is also the newest bike I own. I've never had anything injected or computer controlled in anyway. I'm mostly into older stuff, but I'm excited to learn about these bikes.

I'm sure I will have a ton of questions for you guys. I'm just glad there is a good community around these bikes. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum too. You will grow to love the K an in time it will acquire a mate. That is known as Kpox. They get lonely on their own. Then you acquire these friends across the forum who are very helpful and will share all their knowledge with you and sometimes even meet up if you read across the threads.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions, no matter how small you think it might be. We all started somewhere with them. Someone will have an answer for you.

Have a look on the home page on what to do if you have acquired a K.

The guy I bought it from warned me of the Kpox. I pulled up to his house to look at it and he had 8 or 9 in his garage.

So how come you only took one?

Was he just selling one as a Last Resort?

Seems though you are well in the way of enjoying a K!

Get a couple of thousand miles on it and then Check again for the K pox  study. Symptoms appear all over the forum and should be easily recognized. Safe travels.
