Okay, I know this gets covered from time to time but I seem to only be getting between 200-250klm per tank.

When I ride the old girl hard the red light comes on at about 170k's.

K100RS running 98 octane.

What do others get?

My lights aren't working, but I get around 5.5L/100km, so I fill up at around 350km to give a margin for error.

Running 95 octane.

I find over time 10 miles to a litre, about 16km. But a brisk motorway run over 120 km/h can dent that significantly......

My orange light is religious, will give a flicker after 10 litres are used but does not stay on until 13 litres used. My red light comes on solid after about 15 but I often run it down to taking 17 litres.

This has been an obsession with me ever since I took ownership of my old girl.
My current fuel consumption is down to 5.4 lit/100km. My light comes on around 270km and I can get about 320-330 out of a tank with about an 18 litre fill up.
I only ever use 95octane (usually Caltex Vortex) and 91 if there's nothing else.

It hasn't always been this good. For most of last year its been all over the place from 6.5 to 8 lit/100km. The problem was a combination of a few things.
- My exhaust valves were way too tight. As soon as these were done my consumption went down to a constant 5.8
- She had a leaky fuel injector.
- SPs were bad although they seemed to spark ok. Changing them made a difference to performance and cunsumption.
- I've just changed my engine and GB oil to 100% synthetic which gave me about another 0.2 lit/100km.

I keep a track of fuel and service records on my phone using the aCar app.... What? Anal did you say? Yep probably! Laughing

That's what I'm seeing too and I know my engine needs the valve clearances checked. It's on the TYNYSN list (this year, next year, sometime, never....).

50.5MPG here for the UK people or 5.6L/100km or 17.87km/L or 42MPG for the americans, depending on how you want to look at it. It used to be better than it is now and I'm followed by a definite smell of rich mixture when I come to a stop, spark plugs and valve clearances are highly suspect and the FPR looks original so could also not be helping.

Last time I thought I could smell fuel when I stopped, was just before the tank holed beside the fuel pump. Was only being held in by paint.
Same on the last K with pinholes on the base of the tank.
First thing I would check if you are getting a whiff of fuel.

It's not a smell of raw petrol, just of a rich mixture - like a choke being slightly stuck on. It is getting more noticeable as the miles pass, but for the past 11K miles all I've done is change the engine oil.. I'd be surprised if the plugs and clearances have ever been checked on this motor, it only has about 40K on it. It went into my bike with 25K and I doubt the previous owner really looked after it internally either, and before that who knows.

I'm looking at the service kits being sold by Moto Bins at a 30% discount at the moment, it might be the right time! Doesn't help with the clearances though..

My 1100RS is getting 6.27l/100km with the best being 5.13 and the worst 7.21

It is running pretty rich at the moment so will check that out soon.

On my 100/2 I average 6.15l/100km. The best is 4.05 and the worst 7.66

TBs are balanced and valves checked.

My 1100 sidecar is doing OK then. It's getting between 7.1l/100 when towing(with camping gear etc) up to a best of 6.25l/100km. Normal everyday is around 6.6l/100km.

When I first got my K it seemed to be running very rich. Very fumey exhaust, thick carbon deposit out the tail. Turned out the PO had way overfilled the engine oil by nearly a litre Shocked , but what I found when I changed the oil was that by adding it in incrementally instead of just throwing in the required 3.5 litres, it only took around 3 litres and that was with a new filter as well. Easy to overfill even just a little, especially if the sightglass is gunked over.

When I was riding my K75 to Newcastle each day I'd get 21.5kpl constantly, having been corrected in another thread about the injectors, I'd say having a way of making the injectors inject for the pair of cylinders the same as the spark would pay big dividends on fuel, wonder what that would take? A spare wire and a dual link for the brain ?

My LT does 9-10 Miles per liter  ( 6.25L - 6.9L/100km ) Riding styles makes little difference but on a long motorway run at 5500 - 6000 RPM that can go out to 7.1L /100km. It will probably improve if I ever get around to removing the restrictor (That job is only 14 months overdue  Mad )

I noticed a difference in the revs last Sunday and realised that my new rear tyre is 140/80 instead of the 130/90 I took off. A small difference but it changes my 4800 at 120km/h to about 4950km/h. Had a chance to test it against the static speed detector signs. [88KE: The ones that don't take your photo, that's a €60 option]. Hard to see any difference in fuel though.

I cant say the restrictors ever show any sign of holding you back. More that on the run at Newgrange followed pursued accompanied by a certain new female forum visitor the K seems if anything to be showing some enhanced performance characteristics more akin to methanol rather than ethanol in the tank.

It's only when I'm home in OZ the past three years for a few weeks or a month that I can check my K100RS' mileage. On the Queensland to Victoria and back roadtrips, solo light and two-up loaded, I managed 5.5 to 6 per 100 kms, whilst caning it. Up in the Territory and Western Australia back in 2010 when I did my Ride Right Round, it dropped into the upper 4's per 100 since I was rolling smoothly, steadily and keeping it well under the then speed limit of 130 kph. I'd missed that a significant roadhouse had burnt to the ground and not been rebuilt the year previous and had to eke it out to Katherine following a roadtrain at 80-85 for an hour or more. The bike has K1100 150cc injectors and 35mm TBs with a Motad exhaust. But on average it's about 20 km per 1l/5 per hunnerd.

Interestingly enough, my much heavier and more powerful K1200GT Brick regularly manages up to 48 miles per US gallon. That's a bit better on average than the K100RS. The Motronic 2.2 has its tricks. This is the brain and loom I'll use on my Big Block K100, which weighs well over a hundred pounds less. I am keen to see what she'll return - not that I care too terribly much on that bike, power cruiser that she'll be.

With my K1100LT I get best figures are 4.2/100 and up to 4.8/100. Even with the trailer which is a heavy one I get 5.6/100 sitting on a consistent 110kph.
My K100 which I no longer own was getting around 5.6/100 and about 7.5 to 8/100 towing the trailer.

All of my riding is on country roads, no city traffic with all the stops and starts and the rs constantly gives about the 5ltrs per 100 ks.
The fuel light will start to come on at around 280ks and I often don't fuel up until about 380ks, not game to push it to 400ks before  fuelling though.

Mine was performing, as I thought, quite badly a few months ago and so I took a look at it as I was only managing around 40mpg and it should surely be a lot better than that!

A few weeks ago I was doing a motorcycle course in North Wales and knew the round journey would be getting close to two hundred miles so took a look at the spark plugs. After taking the cover off I found that one of the leads was not actually pushed on properly and two of the other plugs had the little screw on metal bit from the end actually floating around inside the HT lead!

I screwed these back on, cleaned them all up and checked/adjusted the gaps and now, not only does she go like a rocket but also returned a rather nice 52mpg average for the 215 mile round trip.

Cool

Sort answer - TOO MUCH!

Charlie - Brisbane city - Byron Bay - and back again exactly.

However - I'm chipped/1100cc - (supposed to be better economy and more performance - go figure that).

The bike is a guts compared the Moto Guzzi's I have riden.

Didn't do too badly yesterday I reckon!

Just under 200 miles on just over three gallons!

Shocked

There again I was marshalling a cycle race and a lot of it was little more than 1500rpm.

Got another marshalling job tomorrow evening for another cycle race so I'll see how she does on that one.
