Hi guys,

I bought my K100LT 2 years ago from the first owner, which was the reason why I payed a little more than the marketprice.
She looks lovely, and had 94000km's when I bought her.
First things I did: changed EVERY fluid and most filters, brought my seat to an expert to put a new cover on, did the complete spline lube (with Staburags!).
Thank god my splines were still in excellent shape.
She came with the original textile BMW-bags, and the cases in the same colour as the bike.

I'm quite a maniac on maintenance of my car/motorcycle, and I read a lot on the K100 before buying one and even after that too.
That's why I'm in need of help, because she makes a knocking sound on cold start which concerns me.
But that's for the troubleshooting-area of the forum!

Last but not least: a picture!

Thanks Olaf, I appreciate that!
I visited the Isle of Man a couple of years ago, crashed my Honda there and was extremely lucky to tell the tale afterwards Smile
I went from naked to touring because I plan on doing more long trips in the future.
But first I have to be sure she won't die on me, hence the new topic in the troubleshooting  Razz

if a bike is to die, what better than it happening at a nice pub in the west of Ireland, like when the battery failed on my LT

I haven't had a go at Irish pubs (in Ireland that is), but I prefer a dead battery over a dead engine any day of the week!  Razz

Welcome Belgianbiker,

Glad to see you joining the Knuts forum.

I heard k100 engines making knocking sounds before(it was so loud that you would believe that a connecting rod bearing was gone) and...... this was simply bad alternator bearings.
There are only 3 screws to remove the alternator. Take it off and try to run the bike only on battery.
This will give you a pretty good idea if the problem comes from there.
If this fixes your problem, I will get my reward by visiting you and drinking your Stella Artois while you will be serving me Belgium fries and mussels. ❤ (I will be in France this summer and Bruges will be only less than 4hours away)

CF

Thanks Crazy Frog!
I'll give it a try, and I will keep the topic in Troubleshooting updated!
Stella Artois is well-known across the globe, but Jupiler is even more famous in Belgium.
I prefer Jupiler, but hey I'll let you drink both and you can give your opinion  Wink
