Some of my local favs around the Northern Rivers Region...

17. Burringbah Range to Murwillumbah. Some really nice fast sweepers.
18. Numinbah Valley into QLD and back.
19. Casino to Tenterfield if you like endless hair-pins (better going up than coming down)
20. Gwyder Hwy Grafton to Glen Innes. one of the nicest rides I've had lately. A good mix of undulating coastal river country, rain forest escarpment hair-pins and flat plateau country with nice sweepers.

Be careful anywhere in Victoria. They allow a leeway of only 1 or 2km/h above the speed limit before they book you.

When I'm there, I spend much more time watching the speedo than in NSW, so I'm obviously not driving/riding as safely. Makes a bit of a joke of their idea that savage enforcement = safer!

Agree with your Captain's picks (now where have I heard that term before) but  the Lions Road needs to be on the list because while it has not got a wonderful surface (on our side) and isn't fast, it has an amazing composition.
For those who haven't been down:

In the 1920's/30s Depression workers were marooned out there in tent camps to build the rail line and there are old abandoned houses lining the road. Apparently it was a bit like Dodge City. The road then stopped at Cougal and it was in the 1970s that the Kyogle Lions club got the idea of extending the a road over the top of the range which would then link up with the Qld road. The guys slaved away on the weekends with "donation' dozers' (Hurleys) and scrounged materials but the terrain was too much for them and finally the Kyogle Shire council stepped in and completed it.
Just before the Tick gate (cameras take photos of cattle trucks crossing illegally) there is a rest stop were you can see the SYD - Brisbane train climbing a 360 degree spiral ( built in order to try and get enough height so that tunnel could be shorter).
Over the range on the Qld side, the road is like a roller coaster, before it flattens out beside the most idyllic little creek. (great camping area). Then its cows all over the unfenced road. Then the fast blat into Rathdowney.
A great package.

As I posted last week, a bridge is down (sort of) at the moment so you need to check the road status.

This could get interesting if we start doing same up here in the Northern Territory. We have our own Wales, a very nice Lismore, Antrim and many many more that have little traffic.

In Eastern Canada we actually only have one road.... It's called "The road of hell"
If you follow it, you will discover pristine white dunes, free skating rings and off road riding on the road. The good thing is that cops don't bother setting up speed traps.
Look at this beautiful 8HP motorcycle. t seems that the engine is running lean as the exhaust is very white.

Not today, thanks Mark.  I am getting over a bout of the flu that has just hit Brisbane.  Aussie Roads 340248

Not sure which is the best medication though.  Flu tablets or whisky?

Oxley Highway:

Aussie Roads P4040258_thumb%5B4%5D

A friend of mine had to get off her bike and throw up due to motion sickness on her own bike after riding this.  And she's a Tasmanian so there's no excuse.

Here's another slickly produced video in the Roads We Ride series, this time, no prizes for guessing, on the Oxley Highway.

Roads We Ride

The highways starts in the small town of Nevertire and ends on the picturesque coast in Port Macquarie NSW.

Nevertire is a very busy rural town, so busy it never sleeps. the pub is the cultural centre of the place.

That's not water. It's the mark left after the blokes walked home from the only pub in town.

Currently listening to the chiming of bellbirds and whip birds at Border Loop Lookout on the NSW side of the Lion's Road. The Queensland side road is fairly smooth with some bridge repair on. The NSW side has craters in places. It's about 25c with just a few fine clouds overhead in a blue sky heaven. There's not much compares with the Aussie bush.

Some things just do not suck very much at all.
Aussie Roads 20181010
Coming down the NSW side the road surface improved markedly. It seems the bridges are in pretty good nick, too, with a fair few still timber surface. The oncoming traffic, tho' the lane only a car and a half wide, tended to sit smack in the middle. Dunno what goes through a driver's head as they come round a corner on a winding road in dense bush then suddenly have to react to another - no prizes for guessing - vehicle coming at them. Silly buggers, tee hee. I got used to it, but it's no give it some stick sporting road even in the middle of a Wednesday. It is school holiday week in these parts. I managed a good pace and am now enjoying a hot cuppa in Kyogle with the Uki and Murwillumbah roads still to enjoy ahead.

Uki and Murwillumbah roads have the potential to be great fun, but that depends on the maintenance state which can vary over time. Out of Uki is where my dad grew up, and family still live there. Great area.

Enjoy. 😊

Just home as the sun sets. Rode through Uki, past Wollumbin (Mt Warning) up to the sugar cane fields of Mur'bah, then over towards the narrow cut of the Numinbah Valley, past Natural Bridge NP (home of Germaine Greer), then Hinze Dam on mostly empty, mid-week roads. Stopped off for a pot of Iron Jack at the Canungra Hotel. 305kms of pure joy. The RS got better with the miles. Burnt off all of that stale, two year old petrol, and regularly added Liqui-Moly fuel cleaner to help clear out the 'varnish'. The new Progressive rear shock was superb over the rough stuff, as were the Michelin Pilot Road tyres - no chicken strips today.

Waiting on this much-needed rain to fall over the weekend in the Gold Coast hinterland. This place is tinder dry. The weather maps show it has fallen over some more remote parts of Queensland, as well as Vic & NSW, but it seems to be trending southward rather than east over us.

That said, my RS is fully serviced and ready for the 1450-odd kilometres to Geehi Hut on the Alpine Way for ACT's annual Kozzie rally (Kosziousko - can't ever spell that American revolution-era Polish general's name properly). I'll leave Tuesday, making it a Thursday arrival with many a country road explored along the way. Anyone up for a meet or a ride-along? I'll be riding mainly inland rather along the coast.

Kosciuszko Smile

That was the original spelling of the Polish guy's name but for many years the official name was Mount Kosciusko (without the z). Someone then decided that if it was named after a person, they should at least spell his name correctly, even if it makes it harder to remember how to spell it. I usually have to check.

The weather gods really dished it out today, from a pleasant, sunny morning, a hailstorm and driving rain mid-day, and a hurricane-like arvo. Stopped in Young for the night. I think a bottle of red is in order. Aussie Roads 292303
