G'day All, the yellow beast is now registered and goes well. BUT, the original instrument cluster (86 K100RS) had two low fuel level warning light , at 7l and 4 or 5 l. .Swapped over instrument cluster from a 86 K100RT with only one low fuel level light. The problem is that the two lights do not work on the original cluster and the light stays on permanently on the replacement cluster.Should also mention that the whole loom was replaced from a supposedly K100RS. All you more knowledgeable forumers any ideas. Thanks heaps in advance. Cheers Tom

First of all, the cluster with a single 5L warning lamp is the correct one for a -86
(the change was 04/85).

The single 5L and the 7/4L using different sensors and have different PCB's
inside the instrument cluster.
The 7/4L using a thermistor sensor and have the connector at the front left
corner of the tank, the 5L using a float sensor and have a pigtail connector
at the rear end of the tank.

Later sensor available from BMW.

You must combine the tank and sensor as one unit with the correct cluster
with a correct PCB.
But if all clusters have 9 screws you can swap the PCB's if you allready have
a certain tank you wanna use.

When do you think we are likely to see a brace of yellow Grabau K's on the road? Eden would be a good excuse if the little (big?) brother is up for it.

Thanks for that Ed and Gaz, Going to try the replacement fuel sender etc today but a bigger issue has raised its ugly head. 2nd gear is kaput so in the process of replacing  the box from the donor bike. There is a good chance of seeing a pair of yellow Grabau Ks in Eden. Rickmeister is doing a fair bit of therapy on the ankle. Reckon he should also do some therapy on his right wrist. Cheers Tom
