Hello fellow two-wheeled lunatics! My name is Brent and I reside in the northwest of Washington State Of the U.S. of A.

Usual story... Coming back to the fold after decades away. Most of  my riding consists of Motocross and recreational off-road in the deserts of California. Precious little on-road I'm afraid. But that will change soon enough!

I recently acquired an '88 K100rs with ~90k on the clock and in much need of love and attention. The bike is original spec at this time.

Since most things needed done, a buddy and I are doing upgrades that we feel will only improve an already great machine. All this was decided after lurking for awhile and reading the excellent "how-to" articles from TwoWheelsBetter and others here. It only made sense to do this as the bike was in dire need. Definitely not another stripped-down Café style (not that there's anything wrong with that!) I'm a large man in my 50's and comfort is more of a priority at the 'mo

Parts we have acquired so far are all from a '95 K1100lt. Complete front end including the master/twist grip and front wheel. Progressive springs from Realm and a Ram rear as well. The rear wheel is also from the K11. Throttle rack from same.

My skill-set is grounded in automotive areas with many air-cooled VW projects under my belt. Also have 3 BMW automobiles... 1976 e-24 630csi, 1988 e32 735i, 1997 e38 740il. It's an addiction   I'm sure many of you understand my affliction!

Looking forward to the build and bouncing ideas/questions off of the denizens of this great site. I will try not to embarrass myself to much.

Extending a hearty welcome from Idaho.  There seems to be a fair number of K-bike lovers in the Pacific Northwest of the USA!

Thanks to all   I fully realize the nature of those here as was evidenced while lurking and gathering info on my buddy and I's prospective make-over of my K. I applaud lunacy in most forms as I have somewhat of an reputation for thinking "out of the box"  
 
As it turns out, we have bought parts from the BMW dealer here in Tacoma from Hizzoner TWB. He has shared a fair bit of his knowledge with us for which we are very grateful. I have bribed him with smoked Salmon and as soon as I can figure out what beer he favors I will ply him with that as well


Currently trying to determine if an EBC rear "pro-lite"  spec'd  for the standard rear wheel will be compatible with the new rear from the '95 lt. I have been fishing around but have (as yet) to ferret the answer out. I realize the parts #'s between the two are different, but wondering if some fettling will sort it. Perhaps shimming etc. as required.

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to hooking up and riding with fellow riders  come the spring or whenever my bike is ready to go..... You know how "projects" are, they definitely dictate their own schedule

You WILL be upgrading the size of your sheds I assume . . . . . .

At least 1 other K is normally added within the first year or so, and growing from there, up to around 4 or 5 later on

The rear disc themselves are the same, though some might suggest the K11's is slightly thicker, which is dependent upon whether EBC recognises this. It is the ABS ring and provision for such that makes the disc's base or carrier different, mainly. Since your earlier, non-ABS model has no need for extra attachments, buy the least expensive version and use only what you need. They'll both 'fit'. As they generically say in almost all advertising in Australia where they wish to give you half the sandwich, but for full price, 'Some restrictions apply.'
