I am looking for a shock for my K100 rig. I keep looking at the QA-1 coilovers and wonder why one of those wouldn't work. What is the eye to eye length of the K100 monolever shock? Anyone have any suggestion or remarks about using an auto coilover in this application?

G'day arbalest , eye to eye length for the standard shock is 355mm , I'm thinking trying to use an auto shock with coilover is likely to be over sprung & over dampened

goodluck

Just had a google at QA-1 , looks like pretty high end quality , price matches , if you are happy to part with this sort of coin why not get bespoke K100 gear , say Wilburs or RAM ?

The shock is essentially infinitely rebuildable for compression and rebound damping, and springs are much more available, second hand. The Wilburs and RAMs are more than my budget allows. Rebuildable QA-1 coilovers can be had for under US$200. Springs can be shopped around. I would love to have a RAM or Wilburs, but at this time  budget does not allow it. I have been working on this rig for three years. I would prefer not to wait three more years.

You should research the engineering data to determine if these shocks are suitable for the specific application of a BMW K-bike. Shocks are designed for specific applications, damping, and loads. I think that it's unlikely you'd find a suitable automotive shock that wasn't designed for a motorcycle that would perform well on a K-bike.

I'm upgrading my '85 K-bike with a Wilbers Type 633. It's fully adjustable. It's pricey, but at this point I'm more interested in quality and performance.

Regards
