Anyway, hello to everyone, I am Magda. I have moved to Ireland about two months ago and I bought my k100 this Halloween.

It is a 1987 LT. A beautiful flying brick.

Once I have it insured (hopefully this week) I will definitely go on a trip. I can't wait!!!

It is my first bike ever.

I moved from Poland where I have done trips to Tatra, Bieszczady and Beskidy mountains, on a rented bike. I will upload some photos with time.

Hope to meet you in the near future.

Hi Magda and you are very welcome to the forum.....we were expecting you!!

Yes, we love photographs but just to be clear we love photos of your K and the places it goes. Have a good look around the forum and see what the Irish Eccentrics get up to, there are a lot of photos. Then have a look at Europe, Australia/NewZealand and US/Canada...See also how much technical stuff there is too, everything you need to know. We also enjoy a good laugh and a little fun.

Monasterevin is a good spot, I regularly take the bike to Dublin and the usual stopping point is Junction 14 services. There are quite a few K owners within an hour of you. 

Poland would be a nice place to go to, some of us have a taste for travels.

I am sure we can put together a coffee meet up at some point as there are a few Ks not so far from you.

If it is your first bike is it restricted in power or have you a licence already or are you going for a full A licence? 88KE will be here soon and he has a restrictor kit for an LT.......if you need one.

You are in excellent Kompany  on the Emerald Isle and have some cracking riding on your door step.

If you don't want to remain a "Gril" - it is simple enough to go on your profile and correct your name. Of course, a Jedi Gril sound like a fantastic addition to any Barbecue or camping expedition.... and them thar Irish Eccentrics do like to get out and about and meet up, ride and camp.

Can there be too many visits? Certainly "two" (in a year) could only be considered only barely enough!!
Just a lingering thought of that pavlova will get me back in a heart beat!!

It seemed kind of appropriate to change my name - I was bored of being plain old unimaginative me, but I thought it wouldn't be possible to change it without losing prior posting history...until I saw you change yours to an even longer one! 

Becoming a born again eccentric seemed to fit the bill very nicely and tied in with the lip lock on the Blarney Stone pic for an new Avatar. Hope it doesn't cause offence to the real Irish Eccentrics!

Don't know what family plans are for Christmas, but think the Eccentrics Christmas Brunch might be too much of a stretch (never say never though). However, noted your posting for 8 Aug 15 and will try and manipulate my free time to suit so that I can get over then - if not before (assuming I am welcome again!).

Always welcome and most certainly no offence to be taken.

The Christmas brunch isn't for everyone due to the time and family commitments but its fun for anyone who gets out for a few hours.

The idea of that post for August was in case a few people have plans to travel. Becky has also expressed an interest and perhaps Snod might come too. All very loose but could be a nice gathering. The Nore Valley Park camp site is good for those who enjoy camping and very easy to arrange a bbq too, an open barn if the weather is not ideal.

The photo on mine was taken by Jude and Bikerboy in May as we were leaving Brunos to head home. 3 hours after that we were on the A83 heading north in clear blue sky and sunshine.

If you are coming over any time do let us know....we only need an excuse. Another trip to Craggy Island could even be on the cards.....

Good to see you have the licence, in which case you are a fully fledged member of the Irish Eccentrics!

I am sure there will be a chance to meet up before Christmas. Most of us use the bikes all year, unless we have ice or snow which is not very often.

My K100RT was my first bike in a long time after starting off many years ago on a 175 Honda like Be Made. 

I strongly support Be Made's advice to be careful. I hope you aren't a bit short like me, which made my K100 a little 'interesting' at low speeds and stopped until I had the seat modified and put in a shorter rear shock.

Having said that, with care and taking the time to get used to it gradually, I've found mine to be great fun and a window to getting to know a lot of good people, both on this forum (in person and through the forum) and in the local Classic Riders Club I joined.

I had this Honda CD175 one time, then moved from Dublin to Cork. 3 months commuting 170 miles between the two forced a change. The biggest bike I could manage at the time was a Honda CB500-4. Couldn't manage the 750. Took a month before I had enough confidence on it to do that round trip. But, the effect on the adrenalin was savage- it was great for long trips and high average speeds. So is the K......

But, a word of advice. Be careful of Irish car drivers. And ALWAYS wear the gear.

Comberjohn took us about 250 miles [about 400km] on the Saturday of our Norn Iron trip. Ringfad and myself became 'separated' at some point which led to us taking a detour around Ardglass to an art gallery, to Coney island and to meet his parents. Friday was the same distance to get there and Sunday was even longer due to a lot of touring around before the run back to Cork.

A few weeks ago an outing to Craggy Island was about 300 miles all in........about 480km and some of it on roads that were not even good for 30kmh with some interesting 'manoeuvres' by the normally very conservative riding Comberjohn. A few days earlier a round trip to Dublin was about 360 miles...about 570km.

Reg lives in some lovely territory in Galway......350km up there is too much, not because it can't be done, but because its just too nice to not ride slow and enjoy it.

I think a K is lovely when you limit the average day to about 200-250km and stop at every nice place and enjoy a leisurely lunch and photo stops.

That's really up to you. The k will handle that no problem. I recently did nearly 900klm thru some of the windiest mountainous (well... we call them mountains ) roads in Oz in one day. Ok, I was very saddle sore but the K did not miss a beat.

Eh? Irish Roads? You have lovely windy curving mountain roads where you can do 60mph.

Magda ain't seen nothing yet. Monasterevin is in motorway country.....wait until Comberjohn and a few show her the Irish mountain roads....and all the pubs to stop at. Journey times have improved here, partly because a lot of rural pubs are gone.

And do you remember - there is a STOP sign at Sally Gap crossroads. At the top of the sign somebody wrote "Don't" and below the STOP caption "It's OK"

Did you say 2 months here? And you already found the Sally Gap crossroads?

In 2012 on the Norn Iron trip we had an incident. Bjorn kindly offered to help pitch my tent etc, then as we had arranged to meet at Comberjohn's he headed off to his guest house. I phoned about 10 minutes later to check where he was 'I'm sitting in the ambulance'. So I went to follow, indeed he was and some paramedics trying to reset a dislocated shoulder deal with a broken shoulder and collar bone. Road went over a hump back bridge and then dropped down into a right hand bend. Just over the bridge 'You can park by the hole in the hedge' said the kind policeman. Anyway Bjorn went off to Daisy Hill Hospital and we went to Comberjohn's after making sure the bike was put away safely amid offers from those living beside it to feed us etc. Comberjohn 'How did he know where to find that road?' Next time Bjorn was up there he made sure to find it properly.

Local terminology is everything.

The roads on that trip to Craggy Island were like that in places. Scenic but slow. I always tell anyone planning here to work on average of 50kmh/30mph which would give you 500km/300miles which is about what our Father Ted trip was for me.

We do have motorways with 120km speed limit so the 240km run to Dublin takes 2 1/2 hours. But go west into rural Cork and up the west coast and 240km will take 3 1/2 to 4 hours A-B.

I live on one of those roads with the grass in the middle and it has an 80km sign at the bottom just like the photo. It was like that photo until it got washed away about 3 years ago and got remade without the grass strip which is slowly regrowing.

Yes I realise that's not your normal type of road . I can see you wouldn't be doing 900km on those conditions . We have our back roads as well but not sign posted like that  . I'd imagine your highways and byways would probably be better than what we have here. Our limit is 110kph (freeway) 90 & 100kph (highway) and local roads 50, 60 & 80kph zones depending where you are. Outback the limit is bit higher and in the Centre no limit.

But there are still a lot of places I have never seen like Cliffs of Moher or Aran Islands. Plus, I have to go to Isle of Man and to Scottland as well. 

Kaptain, one of the reasons I bought myself a K is the fact that it can do long distsnce rides without suffering from back pain and weariness. 

I am careful and reasonable by nature, so it will definitely take some time to get used to this bike, it is quite powerful after all. I always wear the full gear and I am not ashamed tto drive slowly if needed or if I feel I will not have full control over the bike if I go faster. It has already saved my life and health a coupleof times.

I did it when I got my first bike, the Honda 175 at 16 yrs old. 
I'm doing it all over again now with the K100. (At 59 yrs old)
Dare I say it, but girls are often more sensible and don't push their limits from bravado like some guys, so often do better than the guys at staying alive. 

As I said before, enjoy the ride.

We know all about the Sally Gap...I loved it and used to go up there on a bicycle before I ever had a motorbike. But its usually a sign of a misspent youth.......so think carefully before you tell us whether it was by day or night....A good friend of mine travelled with me on the back of my Honda 500-4 when the Circuit of Ireland car rally used to travel up that way at night. We wore out the footrests on the way, was middle of the night [had 3 very powerful halogen lights] and he still remembers it with vivid imagination. It was one of those rare enough occasions where bike, rider, passenger and riding conditions were all a perfect match and we pressed it on. Funny thing now is the K gives that feeling all the time.

Scotland is a whole other agenda. I have been there quite a few times and my most memorable was a sailing trip up the Western Isles. There is a ferry service between these islands and you can take a bike and hop from one to the next. If you get time its a must do trip. Cluain Si is one of the Irish Eccentrics and he travels a lot, goes to Shetland every year and its a 12 hour ferry from Scotland. Ferry from Belfast to Scotland makes it very accessible for us. Comberjohn is so close he can do a day trip!! He doesn't need much of an excuse to travel...... 

Your sentiments about riding the K match forum members generally so it would seem you will be enjoying few outings.....even being careful it still makes for great average speeds.

I have a back issue and been finding it easier on long trips to ride the K than use the car.

Most of all, the guys on the forum that we may never meet are the best around so any who come over here will be made very welcome.

I used to go there with my friends, either by car or on the back seat of a bike. Mostly during the day.  

And Scottland - yes. Hopefully next year.

You do, of course, realise that the name JediGril is not going to go away? May as well change it now.
The isle of Man is ok but unless you are a real scratcher, there's not a lot in it.
Now Scotland, that's different.
The Highlands, Western Isles, Loch Ness. Great roads and plenty to see. Just a pity about the weather and the midges. But when it's good, it's very good.
In the spring and Autumn, Stena Lines do a day trip from Larne to Cairnryan on the west coast for about £20 return for bike and rider. Just enough time for a run around Galloway National Park.
Makes you feel like you've been somewhere.
If you want to find some weird and wonderful places in Ireland, check out the Irish Photo Rally website. It has just finished for this year but starts again in February. I got all 24 this year.
Plenty of roads with grass in the middle. Keeps the crankcases clean.
Ever heard of the Achill Henge or the border buster(last year)?
Total waste of time and petrol but gives you somewhere to plan a trip to and you tend to meet up with riders who like to cover miles and get a bit of a yarn.

I will not be able to attend the Christmas brunch as I am flying to Poland on the 27th.  But perhaps we can meet some other time or perhaps it would be possible to move the brunch one day back to Dec 26 (although I am aware that many members may already have other plans). We will see what is possible. 

Of course, Jedi Grill sounds fine enough for me  

And now I am dreaming of the misty Highlands and lochs instead of studying, which would be a reasonable thing to do in my position. I think I will be unable to wait longer than until spring.

Hi All,

Above some pics of my trips. The best one up till now is the three - day trip to Bieszczady mountains. There is a special hostel for bikers with a space for tents, a place to make a bonfire, meet fellow bikers, talk, drink, enjoy life.

But there are so many places I still want to go!

The first ride was on a Suzuki GS 500, and all the others except the Real Thing were made on a Honda CB 500.

Comberjohn beat me to it .... I thought of Olaf as soon as I saw the camp site. Looks like we need to plan a run in that direction, with an expert guide to stop us getting into too much bother.

I don't know Poland at all, but it looks beautiful and I now need to look up the Bieszczady mountains on google maps to find out where it is and more about the place. That's a great thing about the forum - you get to see parts of the world that you know nothing of and immediately want to go there!

Incidentally, I particularly liked your arty shot of the wet grass (first ride final pic)! Nothing to do with bikes at all, but who cares!

Magda had beaten you to it! There has already been an off forum discussion about that trip to Poland and yes its going to happen . . . .and Stephen will love it. For Stephen and Comberjohn: Henryck Gorecki's grave is 30km from Magda's parents house. We need to visit this, his 3rd symphony is very special (YouTube it?) and there is a lot of history there.

Sagi can come too, so we travel via Vienna where his parents live and go visit Gustav Mahler and Gustav Klimt! That will impress the wives etc (where relevant) left at home and conceal the real purpose of the trip!!

My brother has done the bike run to Poland and Budapest a few times. A trip for 2016. . . And I bet BornAgainEccentric is on for this one!!!

You bet I would! - I've no wife to impress with excuses of culture...but relish an opportunity to get out and ride in some fantastic scenery and with some great people. 

2016 eh? A lot will depend on timing as youngest daughter is doing her GCSEs and eldest is doing her A levels that year (they live with me, so things do revolve around school).

Welcome to Ireland and to the Forum, saw your post on biker.ie and wanted to invite you over here from the madhouse over there (great site and lots of helpful and knowledgeable people tough), but of course Olaf beat me to it. 

Well if there ever is a trip to Poland that passes through Vienna I won't miss it.
