Bill, you know you want to do it. We have sown the seed of an idea in your mind. Don't fight it. It will only become more painful. Just think May/June 2015, and you are half way there.
Dave.
I don't think I need much persuading. I have been down to Pyrenees and across the north coast of Spain on our camping holidays when kids and myself went. The incessant tolls in Spain were an annoyance as it's coins every time. But it is lovely.
Not sure any of the Irish Eccentrics need much persuading. Sgmayhew was very keen on coming along, he just sent me an email yesterday to that effect. Comberjohn also on for it. Bikerboy and Jude [aka the Hooligan Pensioner] are always keen to travel South but their bikes have an inbuilt aversion to travelling North. I have a feeling they too would have an interest as Jude enjoyed our riding style.
A nice base to work from is good too, maybe not moving tents about every day.
My own view of nice trips is not being too rigid about having a tight up programme as weather and other things can bugger it up. May/June is good as nothing will be full or need pre-booking so we can stop when we feel is the right time or place. A breakdown is not the end of the world either. Lateral thinking is the key. My Dad years ago had his alternator pack up when we were going on holidays. in was about 9 or 10. Rather than cut the holiday short we headed off, towing the caravan, but brought a battery charger. At the other end he recharged it as needed and arranged to come back later in the week to get it sorted. That became a day trip for just the two of us and arrived back at the house in July to see my neighbour heading out in a school uniform- one of our classmates had died and he was heading to the funeral. Headed back down to the caravan for another few weeks.
Now from north west Spain to a meet up near Cap Ferret could be a nice run too. It would be possible to do Roscoff to Cap Ferret in one run but its 480 miles, about 430 on motorway. We always did it in one run in the car, but a big diesel tank meant only one [long] stop for food and refuel. On a K its got to be 3 stops for fuel but likely 4. The thing was we passed so many places we would have loved to visit!
