Hi, I'm an American living in France for the last 20 years and have just inherited my old bike from a friend that I sold to him prior to moving here 20 years ago!!  It's a 1985 K100 RS and it was (I think)  the 10th BMW I've owned, all of the others being boxers.  I'm a car and bike enthusiast and make my living importing cars from America to France.  Happy to be here.

Welcome to the forum.

I guess after 20 years the K may need a few things.  Check out the home page, there is a section on what to do if you have just bought a K.

Guys here have great technical knowledge nd very willing o share it. There is also a great atmosphere and banter and we also do meet up. Equally anyone travelling is made very welcome wherever they go.

Pop up a few photos of the K and if you add yur Vin no to your signature is helpful as there were lots of production changes and ugrades.

88KE and myself had camping trip in France last May. We stayed at Rouffignac St Cernin. Not so far from you I think!

Go check out Brunos there, you will see our marker on the door- you can't miss it.

Bruno will also introduce you to Bikerboy and Jude, more K enthusiasts. In fact if you head over there on a Sunday morning there is an excellent Sunday market in the castle grounds. If you would like a good laugh, on the steps of the castle there is an organ set up on Sunday morning. Go up to the organist and ask him if he is from Mayo direction in Ireland and if he has a daughter. After he recovers you can tell him where you got the instruction to ask that question.

Park the K right outside Brunos and guaranteed Bob and June will appear...., especially if you say where you heard about their place.

We moved on in lovely sunshine....these were the roads we had come for, well surfaced sweeping curves and sincerely bike conscious, courteous car drivers. Not to mention the constant waves from other bikers.

Hey Hey, and thanks for the welcome.  I will definitely make it a point to ride out to Cognac area to visit Bikerboy (who I looked up under the memberlist but he wasn't recognised???).  I bought the RS second hand in South Carolina in 1987 and sold it to my friend in 1989 (the receipt was STILL under the seat when I got the bike back!!!).  He moved to France and a couple of months ago I was passing near his area so we stopped in to say hello.  He took me to the garage and showed me the old RS, which he said he didn't ride anymore and proposed to let me have it back (After all this time, he couldn't imagine selling it and it seemed right that it come back to me...nice chap).  I was thrilled to get it back after 25 years.  I have a picture of the bike to post but can't figure out how this site works and how to do it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Ciao.

Well Jumpinjimmy

It goes like this......

88KE [Will], TacKler [Dave from Australia] and myself are planning a little trip to France, arrive Roscoff 31st May.....by a circuitous route down west and then east along Pyrenees and a few days settling up at a nice place called Lemeuil not so far from you. Camping is our preference and we found a truly wonderful location there for chilling out. Dave will be heading off on his own travels on a K75 that he is picking up from 88KE in Ireland. The K75 is being left at Bikerboy's house at the end of June.

We will be meeting up with Bikerboy who was on the forum........we enjoyed some very nice rideouts last year.

TacKler it would seem will be leaving from Brive on or about 25th June....88KE and myself will leave from Cherbourg 10th June.

So a chance to meet up. We don't have fixed plans but expect to make it to Lemeuil for 3 or 4 days and leave there on 8th June. We had a little discussion last night and considered eating on our last night at Hotel Ch'Ti at Rouffignac on 8th so will see how that works out.

Now to polish up that K100......
