Next year marks 30 years since the K100 was released. Does anyone know whether BMW is planning any functions to mark the entry into 4 cylinder bikes? Should we, as a world wide group, consider a coordinated response to this event? I look forward to considerations.

I like to see a picture of Ronald McDonalds riding a K100.

I like the idea to do something for the 30th.

What a load of rubbish! A mate in Sydney used to tow his wheelie bin up the 200 metre hill to the road for collection. You know, the trick.....hook the handle on the tow bar. One day the police stopped him about 1 km from home...with bin still trailing.....he needed an alignment.
What if we consider that date as the one for the second meeting for 2013? It seems that the Aussies have 2 meetings a year anyway.

I have received an email from BMW Australia after I rang them yesterday. Basically they have no plans to mark the 30th anniversary of the K at this stage. However they are willing to listen to any ideas from us and to put us in contact with BMW clubs.

This may mean more to Australian members than others...although the idea may be worth following through. I just received my latest copy of Road Rider magazine and looked at the section that discusses bike clubs in Australia, and some clubs that are model specific.
Your thoughts on me contacting the editor to outline our 30th meeting at Bathurst ? We may get a run as we are a web based "club" and the uniqueness may be of interest to readers. I await your thoughts and ideas. Our international members may wish to take up the idea with magazines as well. Any publicity can help gain an understanding the Knuts who appreciate older bikes.

it seems that the presentation to the press worldwide (in French Riviera) there was September 19, 2013. In fact, here in Rome we are organizing a party / meeting for we September 13 to 15. there is a post dedicated to "European rides and meetings" and on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/138821192971934/. you are a little distant, but you could do a twinning. ciao

I can tell you that the BMWTCNSW will be organising something at the Far Cairn Rally (Tottenham) in September. It was being discussed at the April meeting. Might just be a display of Ks and special award. We (BMWTCNSW) are not a concours/bike show type club. The main reason for the Far Cairn is a fundraiser for MARI (Motorcycle Accident Rehabilation Initiative) so the K thing wont be the main thing. I'll have the K sidecar there.

If you're referring to the Far Cairn it's 21-22 September. I'll be there on the Friday, there are usually a few.

The rally is at the showground, there will be catering there (food), camping at the showground. There may be accommodation in town at the pub. The weather is usually pretty mild and there are good (hot) showers on site. Grassy campsites.

thanks guys , found the 2012 flyer for a reference.

I'm wondering if Al was hinting of gathering at Far Cairn for the anniversary ride .there would certainly be benefits in the idea.
sharing the K experience with fellow BMW supporters, there would be HOT showers with easy camping, which is low cost outlay, some local friendly folk, and brekkie provided. ( hopefully goes till noon for the late risers).
It is not far from Bathurst , if anyone still wishes for a lap, before returning home.
The rally also supports a good cause which I'm sure a few members have had some close experience with.
I would be happy to look into the provision of a banner or waffle board sign(similar to property sale signs) to help promote the forum to other riders.
I'm sure that our attendance would provide for a great atmosphere at the rally 2013 happy birthday K100 502531 2013 happy birthday K100 292303
anyone else with thoughts....

If there were to be a gathering at Tottenham to help celebrate the 30th, I can assure you the group would be welcome. Probably about time to stir up a few of the club members for this anyway.
I can act as liason or put you in touch with the appropriate people too.

we could gather at Bathurst en route and arrive at Far Cairn en masse, on Saturday arvo via the Rabbit Trap Hotel, they would certainly appreciate the stopover.
http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/one-towns-giant-tourist-rat-trap/story-e6frfq80-1225924652594
so Al does that mean we would actually be invited , I was thinking of a gate crash, but feel that a K owner would be far from Tardy.
Is there any interest from other members regarding this venue and date, I'm not sure if any further suggestions for Bathurst were discussed at Narrandera or any other research has been done.

How about it , can we support Al on this one.
It would be great to fly the K flag at a BMW gathering, especially on such an auspicious occasion.

Bathurst has no big tie to the K bikes and was suggested purely because of its long association with motorsport and we were hoping that we may be able to muster a big gathering but from the lack of response I got when discussing it with some outsiders and the no response from all the "REAL BMW" clubs (I dont include the TCNSW in that) I have since found out from some insiders that K are only tolerated by the Real BMW riders. I may be maligning them but that is the attitude that was put across to me from several sources.
I would be quite happy to join in with the Touring Club and have a do at the Far Cairn Rally or if the guys here still want Bathurst then that is OK as well but I am not doing any organizing for this one so it's up to someone who knows the area etc.

so Al does that mean we would actually be invited , I was thinking of a gate crash, but feel that a K owner would be far from Tardy.

Re: an invitation I can't say right now as I haven't spoken to anyone. But I know the attitude of the people organising the rally and I can assure you that you'd all be welcome(any boost to numbers is always welcome). I can liaise with the organisers no problem. What do we want? I was thinking a K display area, that's not hard to organise around the social area at the rally, anyone interested in a dedicated Kamping area?

The next meeting is 29/5/13 if anyone is interested in coming as a visitor, I'll be talking to the Farc'n rally organisers about this then.

Al

I did have something we could do for the Far Kairn Rally, Does anyone have access to a K series video (short preferably) or slideshow type thing. there will be computer/projector/screen facilities for the evening that could be taken advantage of.

If this far kern rally is something we want to do and I see no reason not to, I am now thinking of how to get there from Sydney.
Narrandera looks good. Or Coonabarrabran.
I think a visit with Al to Toongabbie on the 29th is in order.
Bit excited about this one.
We probably should have a show of cylinders. Most wins. Only going to lose if they outnumber us two to one.

Get the wagons in a circle.
Injuns
Bella can patrol the perimeter.
