Hey whats up?

Quick into.

I just picked up a 1985 K100RT.  It is my first bike, and I'm 40 years old.  I know, a little late to the game.  I have enjoyed bikes for a long time, just never picked a bike up.  I've always liked BMW and the history of the company, as well as the bike pedigree.  My "bike of choice" is a Harley VROD, so I thought the K100 was a good entry into that, with a water cooled engine.

My bike is blue, and has seen some life.  She has about 115,000 KM on her (metric system) and needs some work.  I'll be posting on the forums to try and locate some of the little broken plastic bits.  Overall though, I think she is a nice bike.  Sits a little high for me, so I'm searching for a way to bring her down by about an inch.  This would allow me to sit flat footed with riding boots on.

Included a few images below.  Some of the parts I'm looking for include:

Replacement buttons for the dash.  Replacement left and right controls.  Both sides are very faded and the left turn signal switch is broken - someone repaired it god awful so that needs some work.  Kill switch button is missing.  Switch still works but would be deadly afraid to get it wet.  Both the clock on the dash and the gear selector icon are broken.  Not sure if there is some replacements I can get for those, without having to replace the whole instrument panel - but not opposed to that.  The pegs are warn out.  Would love OEM if possible, but if not I'll look after market.

Mechanically, she is working fine.  The valves are a bit noisy, so will likely have to look at reseating, etc over the winter.

You are very welcome. Always nice to see another K.

Ks are special, they get under your skin. When you take the time to get to now them you will find they are extremely reliable and great to ride. They also attract nice people, the forum here is great for technical stuff but also some nice fun.

On the home page there is a link to what to do if you have just bought a K. Have a read on that and don't be afraid to ask questions. Post your progress because you will get a lot of helpful suggestions and advice along the way, be open to it and it will make your life easy.

I like your seat too!! I just bought one of those on eBay.

Exactly. Have a similar one on the LT and it is very comfortable, but it wouldn't fit the RT.....so got the right one on eBay. I think your one should have grab handles screwed at the back of the seat but yours have been 'seated' over, in later Ks the grab handles are on the bike moulding.

Ah, interesting.  Thanks for the info.

On the seat side of things, the little bar on the bottom that goes into the seat lock is missing.  I've reached out to Corbin (yesterday) to see if I can get that part sent.

Looks like I'll have a goodly number of projects over the winter months to keep me busy!  Haha.

Welcome to the forum,  I am in Ottawa as well.  I have quite a few K-bike parts around (although none of what you listed) if you are ever in need.  Also I doubt Corbin will have that seat part, as they typically come without hardware and you need to use the hardware off the factory seat, so I expect you will need to ebay, or get it from BMW.

Cheers.

welcome Scooby103, Love those Ks. mines the same model and year. This forum is tops mate, like the bikes, get to care for them properly and its paid back 10 fold.
Recommend pulling tank off, flush + new fuel filter, std off shelf, check wiring for butchery workmansip and heating signs and clean all multi connector pins and sockets, especially to handle bars.
Mine had corrosion in a plug heated wires melted insulation - fused loom. took a while to sort.
