What in the world is this doodad? Captureso, number 9 on the diagram. it's a little rubber thingy that fits into a groove in the back of the bell housing. seems to plug the hole leading to the clutch. my question, what the heck is it and where do i get one? BMW dont seem to make them anymore.

mine is almost certainly lying around in a hidden corner of the garage but for the life of me i cant find it. would a bit of duct tape be a suitable temporary replacement?

cheers

Well, we could say a lot, but showing us the diagram you refer to would be helpful.

It could be, from your description, the seal ring around the clutch push rod to prevent gear oil entering the clutch area, but I don't know for certain.

Yep, 11 14 1 460 478, which used to cost US$1.89 is now a discontinued part number. Musta been an eye portal for adventurous souls who'd dare peer deep into the beastly internals where no mortal should look.  Evil or Very Mad

In German it's called Teufelshöhle. Twisted Evil

Why on earth would they discontinue a part like that? Seems pretty important and easy to loose, no?

Its a little roughly triangular bit of rubber right?
