you might be able to take the switch out so that you could orient it so that you could get some wd40 in there and stay there whilst activating the plunger ,,,this might clean up the contacts a bit easier ? afterwards clean the wd 40 out of the mechanism with some electronic cleaner carbi cleaner so that it doesn't coagulate into a non conductive goo ...your trying to flush out all the crap that loosens .
but its not an uncommon thing that they do fail ...usually cause they don't get regular servicing ....till they become intermittent
