Hi Ya Squig welcome to the forum.
If you go to the portal page there is a link to "so you just bought a BMW what next".
Have a read through the K related parts and you will have a good idea of what to look out for when buying.
I don't think you will ever find a perfect K100 but at least you will have an idea of what you may need to do to fix some of the problems that appear in them.

Hi Mate,

May I recommend you read related post under "Life time fan - first time poster" and then decide if you still want to proceed with a K100 Forum relationship!

Welcome to the forum.

We have a good number of members in Ireland and some not too far from you. I have a K going back 4 years and some of them come up for sale from time to time. I saw a nice K100LT on Done Deal last week.

If you already have a bike and are free on the weekend of 8th August some of us are meeting up to go to road racing at Faugheen. We are planning to meet on Saturday 9th for breakfast at Stradbally Fayre just 6 miles from Portlaoise on the road to Carlow. If you are more adventurous a few of us are camping at Bennettsbridge (J9 on M9) at Nore Valley Park and planning a BBQ on the Friday night. You are very welcome to come along and meet a few K nuts.

The guys on the forum are very helpful and very willing to share technical knowledge. If you need anyone to take a look at a K for you I am sure someone will oblige.

Good man Squig, you've come to the right place for all matters K.Take a seat, no waiting.

Any idea which model you're arfter? There's good value to be had in them but if your looking on donedeal let us know a few of us have checked out some of the candidates there. No need to tell a man from Dundalk to keep an eye north of the border too.

If you can make stradbally on the 9th you'll have a great chance to see a few models and talk to the guys. It's not a club but we do hook up for a big brekkie and a ride out a couple of times a year. Come in the car if you have to, no problem.

Enjoy the forum
Will.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I didn't realise I got replies. I've been checking out those bikes on Donedeal over the last few weeks. The K75 in Drogheda has an ABS fault on it and the owner says it's the modulator. Is that a mega buck repair or what can you recommend. The one in Wexford has disappeared. I thought it was a sweet bike. Was it a blue/grey colour from 1980 something only used on foreign trips and the owner said he had too many bikes.
I've been enjoying the posts from the Irish eccentrics. Real entertaining stuff. Unfortunately I don't have a bike at the moment and I'm torn between a K or an oilhead. I love the looks of the oilheads but I think the K's are a more modular bike and could be easier to work on. I'm pretty much a novice on all this so I need guidance on all of this.

The modulators are quite easy to get and rarely give problems. Often the ABS gets stripped out because of a computer fault that until recently was very expensive to fix till Tosi Tabuki came to the rescue http://bmwk10075abs1fix.web.fc2.com/
If you do buy and get a modulator make sure to get the correct one. Front K75/100 and Front K1100 are different but the rears are the same and front (left side) and rear (right side) are also different.

Did you have any more luck on getting a K?

I have recently seen a few coming up, some good and some needing a bit of tlc. But with a bit of help from the forum you would be made.!

Hi 92KK.
I saw a K1100LT from Kildare €1400 88k miles. It looks pretty good. Unfortunately since I first posted I have damaged cartilage in my knee. I'm waiting on an operation to sort it out. Doc reckons I should wait until after operation to see if the knee heals and that I can keep my leg bent on a bike, Its a real PITA as I have just taken early retirement and was looking forward to getting a bike. What other K's have you spotted that would be worth looking at

Sorry to hear about your knee. Sometimes I reckon the that Ks and the riders are of similar vintage. I have knee issues too and as its the right knee rather than the left one it gets along fine. I find using the bike is much easier on the body compared with driving the car a lot. Severe knee issues would put me using a sidecar.

I haven't checked up on what's for sale for a while but our trip to Kilkeel on September 19th is being joined by a K1100 from Galway. We will be passing up your way and staying at Kilmorey Arms in Kilkeel. If you venture that far for a scoop or a bit Friday night could be good.

During the week I was looking at a K75RT in a friends workshop and was impressed.

I think someone looked at that K1100 in Kildare too.

Doctors will tell you anything to stop you riding a bike because they only ever see the down side. Tell him to get it in him and go buy it then you have something for the physioterrorist to work towards.
I had spinal surgery in February and they said not for 6 months and were horrified when 8 weeks later I was riding but I am in the same boat as 92KK in that I am far more comfortable riding than driving and they are both BMWs

The boys are right about the bike being easier than the car on the body, with the exception of the left hip/knee for mounting and dismounting. My Doc met me outside the supermarket on the K a fortnight after a heart attack. When I showed him that that my hands were below my heart (as opposed to the car where they are same height) and the steering was my body lean, gear changing a flick of the Toe and the centre stand wasn't the only parking option, he agreed and departed stating "you're a F>€$ing ad for it!"

All that said - get a k75 or a naked bike the weight difference is massive.
