My name is Paddy, and I am a BMW motorcycle enthusiast and recent K100 owner.

I have owned a half-dozen Beemers over the past 30 years: from a 1961 R60/2 that I fully restored, to a 1998 K1200RS that introduced me to the concept of warp-drive. I currently have a 1985 K100S (the "S" denoting the aftermarket Sprint fairing), and I am going to be relocating from Maine to the upstate-SC area.

So, yeah. I wasn't *really* in the market ... but a two-owner, 20k original mile (YES the odo works proplery) bike that is 30 years old and has been absolutely babied its entire life? Can't wait to ride all over the south! I'm planning to kick things off properly with an Iron Butt SS1000 trip from mid-coast Maine to Greenville, SC in late-September.

Welcome to the forum!

That's a great buy. But check the age of the tires. If they are over 4 years old you should put on new ones, even if there is lots of tread left. Ks and old tires are not a good combination. The bike with that seat will be great for very long trips!!

Had another look at the photo. I thought the seat was a Comfort seat but now realise looks more like a Corbin. You might find the leather hard? Just try it out.

That's exactly the same as the Corbin I was talking about recently. The two tabs, behind the riders and pillion seat, are to cover the holes that back rest pole go into (which is where Irene was having the problem- not being able to slide back on the seat).

I found the Corbin to be extremely comfortable.  I just completed a 300 mile day with no aches, pains or other issues.  The seat is hard, but that works better for long distance( or else it's just that my ass is soft).

ps.  Welcome Paddy.  With a name like that, you'll fit right in.

Regarding the tires: unfortunately, they are new ... so I won't get a chance to purchase any soon. Bummer. LOL

I have had Corbin saddles on 4 of my Beemers and they totally work for me. Just like a Brooks saddle on a bike, once you get accustomed to them, there is nothing finer (in my humble opine).

Now it's jest a question of finding more time to ride!

Here's a pic of the seat. The square patches are actually velco-tabs that cover the holes for the back rests, Just as described above. The P.O. blacked out the Motorsports logo on the seat ... but, no big whoop.



Great seat for long days and for twisties ... at least for my backside. Your results may vary.

I did remember your comment on the two tabs which I saw in the photo. I remembered you said it was hard and during the week I was looking at another one that also was looking rather hard as in the leather was hard [as opposed to the interior filling].

I did do 500 mile day on the Comfort seat and was game for more, so maybe they both will do the job. However I loved the softness of the outer covering, felt like the seat was moulded around me.

This is only the second time I have ever seen one of these fairings. The first ( a few weeks back on trademe, nzs equivalent model of ebay) was red on a K and I thought it was a chopped down RT one but am obviously mistaken. They do look pretty good though

I have heard about Corbins seats for many years now. Always wanted to at least try one or have one. They are legendary. This bike I have has the "comfort" beema seat on it, probably quite old now with the bike approaching 120000 ks. We (me and my partner) last about 2 or 2 and a half hours before the arse gets sore.

If anything it is the arms which usually get stiff requiring flexing a fair bit every hour or so before we need to stop. If I could find a corbin here I would grab it in a heartbeat but it seems they are a bit few and far between. I guess, If I was rich, I might be able to source a brand new one but I have not even looked in to it to see if they are still available or not

Its all in the fun spirit of the forum. He is heading off on a holiday to France. That's what happens when you live about 10 minutes from the ferry port for France and Roscoff. You can decide to travel at a moments notice.

If it wasn't my son's birthday this weekend he could have a wingman gooseberry along. My camping gear is all nicely sorted out. Hopefully I will be enjoying a sunny Sunday lunch by the waters edge in Kinsale [or Cobh] with Comberjohn while Corkboy slowly recovers from the Force 8 headed for his ferry on Saturday night.

Also note, the P.O. polished the engine cases. Can't say I would have done that, but since they ARE polished, I don't mind.

Oh, and did I mention the purchase price? Yeah, it was $2,000, with excellent panniers, tank bag, fitted cover, and a near-mint Schuberth helmet and Joe Rocket mesh jacket ... both of which fit me like a glove.

That's a striking bike alright.    But it's a bit of a puzzle to me why someone would go to the trouble of making an after market fairing that is so faithful to the OEM item.  A question for you: Are the vents on the sides blocked off or do they actually pass through to the inside?    They appear to be merely styling flourishes.  If that's the case, would they make the rider hotter during summer months or relatively cooler?
As an aside, I think BMW must have produced a huge number of 1985 K100RS bikes.  Mine dates from that year too, and I got a wonderful bargain as well. I didn't think to ask for a Shuberth helmet though.     I'll admit however, it's not so beautiful as yours is.  It runs very well though and I consider myself fortunate to have found it.

It was to close to the OEM design, Sprint fairings did have to change the design
of this fairing, after threats of legal action from BMW.

Dude . . . .NOW I am officially jealous   

You can see that Sprint did change the design slightly already by the time this one was built in late-'85 or early-'86. The turn indicators are not built into integral mirror pods like the factory fairing (and the earlier Sprints). Also, I think the overall lines are *slightly* different as well, all to appease the Roundel boys.
