Howdy gang

What is the cheapest/bestest/safest way to get rid of the awful mushyness caused by the rubber bushes in the triple clamp, and make the steering much more firm and connected?

On a K100 you can use the K75 top triple, but no such joy on the 1100.

There is the option of getting some dense plastic or aluminium bushes turned, but dunno how much $ that would cost...

Is a 1'' washer on the bottom ok?

Motobins sell brand new top triples for 10 squid. maybe welding the mounts to the triple?

You can do the same thing to a K100. I have.

Oh ya. I recently installed spacers (a.k.a thrust washers) under the big spacers beneath the lower nut--and that did the trick.  Cool

Normal, everyday things like handling and parking is just fine, no noticeable deflection of the handlebars (and reduced vibes to boot).

There is still deflection, but only under high stress (like when you bounce the front end to seat the wheel). No worries mate (to use the vernacular).

At all costs, avoid over torquing those lower nuts cause you'll just mash up the big spacers (hard to replace those without a trip to Motobins).

Enjoy the ride.

On my K100 I put thrust washers both above and below.

For some reason Im having great difficulty locating washer of the correct I.D at the local hardware.

The bearing shop can do em.....for 10 bucks each!

Went rummaging through my misc. bots etc icecream container, and pulled out 2 old clutch O-ring compression rings. They worked perfectly with the ridge pointing upwards as shown. These are installed at the bottom. Still need to work out what ill do at the top but the improvement so far is enormous.
