In 2012 my sons and some mates made a weeklong bike trip to the Philip Island Moto GP.
Facebook was abuzz with " One more sleep" and "here we are trackside" etc. letting the world know that they were not home. You guessed it, house and shed burgled by some lowlife/s. younger brothers' Husky 310 gone, older sons' laptop, workphone and other stuff gone, photos on laptop irreplaceable. Cops not very helpful, bye bye possesions!
Fast forward to last Friday older son Tom is at his mates bike shop and recognises Nicks' Husky 310, a fairly rare bike I think you will agree? Nick had a collision with a quad bike out in the bush and the repairs, done by Tom included an aftermarket front rim, brake disc and gouge in the lower triple clamp from hitting the stop as well as other minor identifying features.
Police were called and the bike was seized pending investigation. Nick now has to prove it is his and the above info is not enough apparently! Now 5 days later he has had no joy in trying to claim it. ( engine and frame no's have been removed) Now that alone indicates that it was stolen, surely? and how many Husquvarna 310s have been reported stolen in Tas?
Nick has an ace up his sleeve however, the dealer he bought it new from said No Wuckn' Furries mate, get it here, I'll plug in the diagnostic and Bingo... VIN and everything will be there on the screen! Ain't technology wonderfull?

Now to get the cops to do something, good luck Nick.

Only in Tasmania? Husky10
sorry about the pic size ( stolen from net) anyone got a better photo?

Not just in Taz. Boss' son had his car broken into. Rang local police. 'Car has been burgled? sorry, we are not targeting that at the moment. Have a nice day'. Click.

Told his daughter who is a cop. Mr Plod arrived within the hour to investigate.

After our place was robbed 25 years ago we were told to go to the local pub and pawn shop and buy the stuff back.

Good luck with the VIN. That'll show the pricks.

Not the only part of the world that sort of thing happens in.

Cyclists over here get a raw deal, sometimes though they bring it on themselves. But on this occasion some guy in a car threated a couple of cyclists and threatened to run them over. Happens all the time even when cyclists are in the right. Trouble was the two cyclists were off duty cops in training. So the car driver rightly had the book thrown at him. But if you or I went in with a complaint like that........

Trouble is, by taking the attitude that they don't bother with a theft from a car they are sending out a bad message, the low lifes know they can get away with it.

Here's hoping the Husky finds its way home!!

Minor clarification

Only in Tasmania ....  I was referring  to finding the bike again after 18 months , the coincidence of visiting the bike shop the SAME day the bike came in and by his brother prob the only other person able to eye the bike.

Dumb and Dumber was a reference to the A hole and his mate for taking it to a bike shop Hahaha.

I txt Nick today "Any progress with the cops?"

Reply "Na they are #ucking hopeless"

But Hey? what's 5 days after 18 months?

The real icing on the cake would be to catch out those who either stole it or handled it. I don't have too much sympathy for the guy who left it in the shop, a bike with the numbers removed would raise questions in most peoples minds and anyone buying one like should consider why are the numbers removed.

Hi there, around here, any vehicle with the vin or serial numbers perturbed is seized by the acting authority and vanished in to the justice void.
Good luck
&
Best regards

Almost a month since the bike was seized by the police. The only progress for my son is that the police admit it is probably a stolen bike because the no.s have been ground off. Will he get it back? Seems a call to the Ombudsman (or politician?) may be necessary.
Poor show I think.
