Hi, does anyone have a pannier key 43 for sale or any ideas on how to get a new one cut?

Here is a picture of a 43 you may be able to get one cut from that or make one yourself.

rob ...I found today that I had two different locks on my panniers

similar to the keys inge has posted above ......what rotten luck

but I modified one of the cylinders ( the bit that accepts the key into the lock body )

what I did was to get a 1.2mm drill bit and remove the part of the profile that different ...was at the base of the key ...in the lock mechanism

I found an old suitcase key that was very similar ...( as there is little difference on the keys from about 1/4 inch up the shaft of the key ...the important bits are in that last 1/4 inch )

this key was a cheney   number 35  which was a pretty close fit just a little profile modification required




both locks now look like this





the modified key which now fits both locks



think it only took me half an hour once I got the key

yep would be good for some of the profiles

unfortunately the neiman keys  are what they call a bent key (that is the metal is bent to the profile) rather than a solid extrusion - machined type profile
 by the look of the 43 key
this would be one of the easiest to adapt from another key standard  (with the flat back profile )

the 49 would be a pain ...and is what I had to do

New locksmith in town and he cut a key for me with a blank with Lowe and Fletcher on it. Will post photo soon.

Sorry, Charlie...but the groves looks like they are machined on my keys...some have never been used.
I would have agreed if we have been speaking about the keys to the Südhaus locks which was used on the Krauser panniers on the R models.

Neiman did deliver the locks from the second generation panniers, but I don't think that they was involved in the first generation......the locks just looks to simple.

yeah same inge   mine looks machined on 2 sides of the key ...but what I was told by the great guru locksmith
but some folks are known to bs a bit

but the bend in the profile towards the end of the key does look  a pressed finish , before plating

Yes Charlie....amazing what a professional with the right gear can do....but the stainless is still being used...wonderful bloke who supplied the ss. Photo of key tomorrow.
