Looks like the gods have been gracious and shown me the way back to a KBike.

Just did a deal on this 94 K1100, pickup tomorrow.

The back tyre is dated 07 and has lots of cracks in the rubber, the paint is full of stone chips and runs but everything else looks to be working and the engine is very clean and sounds great. 85K Kms on the clock but I'm sure it's an ex single seater cop bike so it's probably a lot more. I'm taking it unregistered and hope to have it sorted and back on the road in about 6 months, maybe sooner.

What makes you so sure that a K1100LT didn't come from the factory with a 1985 tail cowl, seat and battery covers?Laughing

Cheers Waz, Rick tells me they are krauser panniers. I've never had a set before.

It looked odd to me too duck, the panic handles are missing for a start. It should look like an RS back end shouldn't it? The side covers don't have the pin that goes into the rear cowl and the indicators are on the pannier rails. I'll get it here first for a closer look.

Rossko, WTF does NOS mean?  Razz

If it is a '94 model then it must be a '94 rear end. Righf?

Yeah RossKo, what is NOS?

As some have figured out I was just joking around.  Those are most definitely 85 K100 parts.  The reason the passenger grab handles are missing is that on 85 models they were built into the rear of the stock seat.

Cheers Smithy, it rained most of yesterday but I picked it up late in the afternoon. The motor seems smoother than my old K100RS and it's way lighter and easier to move than the R/RT. I found an invoice in the paperwork for odometer repairs in 2012 so who knows how long it was out, but I also found invoices for new master cylinders and caliper kits so scratch that one off the list. And I found one for antifreeze from the BMW dealers in town ??? The rego plates are off it now, so it's parked till I get rid of the Blue RS Boxer and the Throttle Body parts arrive and are fitted to the RT. Starting to get queries for the rs boxer now so I must be getting to the right price zone although the high mileage is scaring people off. The road worthy certificate expires Tuesday so that's 2 months with no sale.

It looks like someone has recovered the seat on the LT and jammed a pillow or something in there. It's not a good fit at all and will be the first thing to get fixed. There is a corbin seat on ebay right now, ex US, but it's too soon for me. There's also a set of damaged panniers and top box off an R bike on gumtree for under $200+post which would be nice. The ones on the R/RT are great but I don't know if they can be made to fit a KBike plus cash is pretty tight. The mirrors are flopping around inside the housings and the screen needs a cut and polish so I can have a go at fixing that stuff when it's quiet. I'll get it finished eventually,

I just couldn't let another one pass me by Smile

Congrats on the K1100 purchase, Robin.

Smithy, Who's the manufacturer of the seat on that K1100 of yours?  It looks to be totally custom.

Hey Rob the seat was a Corbin with low seat and matching piping, I found it to be a little restricting but my wife loved it on the back.

I'll check it out , garaged at branxton at present. currently around 95,000km, purchased from Port Macquarie in April this year.
this one does not have the coloured piping on the seat. or the deflectors on the sides of the screen. the rear seat certainly looks the goods , comfort plus.

Been looking at seats tonight Smithy, That corbin seat is designed for the RS seating position.
They do a touring seat which is for RT type bars.

Cheers, there is a fair bit to sort out down the back to get it straight. Got bids in on a rear rack and have found a post 86 corbin seat to suit, ex US but need a postage quote before committing. And I'll need a rear cowl at the right postage Smile  I thought I had a complete one tonight but US$238 postage is a little over the top.

It used to be pretty inexpensive to ship via International Economy Parcel Post but the USPS got rid of that a couple of years ago since they were losing money on it.  Now everything has to go International Priority Mail which is rather expensive, especially for large/heavy objects that don't fit in a flat rate box.

Yeah, make all the excuses under the sun but $238 shipping on a $54 item is ridicolus ...

I did a fedex quote and it was $138 with a 2 day delivery. They just don't wanna send offshore ...

This is why we buy ex UK, at least the postage is comparable to here.

Mind you motoworks wants 80 GBP for a cowl + post + the frigging handles at 22 pounds each.

They know the US don't like to post international. Even you don't like sending LED kits off shore. I don't understand why? What difference does it make ? Surely you just bang on a stamp and fill out a little green form saying motorbike bits and it's away.

Grrrr

Robin,

Worth checking UK ebay as the tail units complete don't fetch much money. I've seen them complete with indicators and rack for fifteen quid.

If you spot one and the seller won't ship to Oz, we may be able to sort it between us.

I have to fill out a customs form BY HAND and then wait in line at the post office(which can take a while) to mail internationally.

For domestic I can just slap a computer printed address on it and use the automated machine which means no line so it's much faster and easier for me.

One thing I see is that postage rates are being over quoted so as to not pay fleabay as much commission i.e. the postage is up by $50 and price is down by $50 and fleabay done tollect commission on quoted postage.
I can buy 4 tyres from Rocky mountain ATV & MC and get them delivered to my local PO for $90. They may be subsidising the postage from profits but not by much as the tyres are much cheaper than elsewhere.
4 tyres is a big parcel for $90 so somebody who wants $200 to post a rear ducktail IS robbing us blind and when someone does that to me I cancel the order and tell them they don't rob me.

Many thanks to Ghosty for sending me lots of parts to get this bike underway. Bits should be here next week.  Once I get my shit together I'll start a reno thread.

Still working on the R/RT and have to move it out of the garage first. I'm waiting on TB parts but this week I have fixed/painted the cracked mirror pods and have resprayed the belly pan with the left over paint, clear coat on that one tomorrow, then cut/polish all over the week-end.

These pods where cracked wide open. They've come up really well, maybe a bit darker than original but hey, no cracks Smile
The belly pan was all stone chips with almost no colour at all Smile

Obviously I need to work on my before and after shots. I have some new plastic polish coming to do a review on. The screen on this LT is cloudy but I also have scratches in the RT screen. Lets see how good it is.

I Love a Bargain K1100-2I Love a Bargain K1100-2

The panniers are Krauser K2 type and they come in different sizes, the centre aluminium frame bands are wider for a 42litre pannier. My LT came with them and they are far superior to the standard BMW ones. The lock at the rear locks the panniers on, clever design means you have to lock them to get the key out. By comparison with the BMW panniers they are so easy to get on and off. The support frames come with the indicators on them so you have a slight modification to wire them in. Internally a better shape, they take a full face helmet, will take full size laptop, don't let water in and have elastic document holders inside the lids, the door opens neatly and the hinge is a long galvanised steel pin that doesn't break. I just bought a pair of 42 litre ones brand new unused stock off eBay UK for £135 plus postage, for the pair. I do have to get them painted due to the colour but being new there is no filling etc involved. I got frames from Krauser for €111 including postage to Ireland. All in the cost is just under €300 delivered to Ireland. Looked at Australia prices and see its about $1700 for panniers and frames.....Ouch. I bet it would be cheaper to buy a set here and post them over. Look on www.eBay.co.uk and search Krauser K2 panniers.
