Well the long awaited Nindigully Run has been run and done (at least for 2014) and I'm sure all who participated had as good a time as I did. As always, great company and on this trip good scenery and a very wide variety of roads.
I enjoyed the hospitality of the Smithy family up near Guyra on Thursday night after a bone jarring ride up Thunderbolts Way. This was once a sought after ride for many motorcyclists but I wouldn't recommend it any more as the road condition has deteriorated severely along much of the route. As the K75 was only on its second highway outing after the previous weekend run down to RT's place since getting registered I suppose I can class it as a suspension and tyre test. Smithy turned on a nice cold morning on Friday for someone from the lowlands of the Hunter. Check out the frost in his paddock.
On cue we met Sean and Bella in town in Guyra and pushed off through Tingha to Moree where Sean had arranged to meet Johnathon and Kate who has a very sweet little V50 Guzzi. Then up to Mungindi on the Queensland border with a bit of road train action on the way.
Up the road a bit Kate who was leading at the time spied some old ruins off the side of the road that looked interesting so she pulled over and as I stopped back a bit from her I thought I might as well see how the K75 handled horizontal parking with the old trip on the edge of the road trick (lucky there were some "friends" close at hand to record the event). Glad to advise that a naked K75 can be laid on its side without suffering any damage.
The gathering after bike and I were upright again.
I thought that was enough fun for the day but Sean was determined to raise my heart rate (although I'm sure his was even higher) by throwing out his left arm to warn of a bunch of kangaroos and then holding the outfit dead straight while mowing down the second one right in front of me. This roo family were a bunch of real gamblers as the smallest member decided to try its luck getting across my bows, but he was too fast for me and I missed him. Sadly the roo had no chance against the sidecar.
Bella keeping an eye on the casualty.
We rolled into Nindigully Pub all intact and in my case 850 km from home. Rick and Marg were there to welcome us so after setting up we adjourned to the pub to discuss where the other expected arrivals might be. Waz rolled in just before dark and Andrew turned up a bit later.
Great camping location - even the mosquitos liked it.
After an interesting and enjoyable evening at the pub our travelling troop decided more riding was in order so we set off to Goodiwindi and then on down to Ashford, back in New South Wales. Sean sussed out the locals for the best camp spot while he was getting fuel - so it was off the few kilometres to Wells Crossing.
A good night was had around the campfire with Sean, Smithy and Waz with Bella keeping an eye out for any other dangerous animals that might be lurking.
Sunday was home time so once packed we rode down to Inverell where Smithy and Sean departed for Guyra and Waz kept me company down through Bingara, Manila, Tamworth into the Hunter Valley. The storms that were lurking all day finally caught up with Waz and I just north of Scone (we got hammered by that one) and again as we approached Singleton.
The K75 came through without any drama and the Pirelli Scorpion tyres were surefooted in both wet and dry. In all a great weekend and 1680 km under the wheels.
Cheers
