While I've got the fairing off for paint, I'm going to put in a pair of relays for the headlights. I was just going to cut the existing plug and drive the relays with those wires and then wire in the original plug from the relays to the headlight. I notice several people mentioning they've installed a ceramic headlight plug. Is there any reason to swap the plug?

The relays route the power to the headlight away from the headlight switch which once the relays are fitted only passes the current to activate the relay instead to light the bulb. Given the nature of the K wiring this in itself seems to improve the lighting a little and bring more power to the bulb because there is less resistance. More power is more heat which in theory can cause the bulb plug to overheat and melt a little, especially as it will be old and the connections may not be absolutely perfect..

The ceramic plug also allows fitting higher wattage or higher output bulbs without risk of overheating the plug. They are or should be very cheap, standard H4 bulb connection.

Sounds like a plan. Found one on fleabay for $6 delivered. Cheers.

Robin, you don't need to cut the existing plug for the headlamp: standard Lucar ¼" spade connectors will fit the plug.

Just a thought.

FWIW: I Posi-tap the relay trigger wires into the connector for the left combo switch.

When I did mine, I didn't touch the headlamp plug at all  - it was much more convenient to grab the wires under the tank:



The white and yellow wires out of the connector block are High and Low directly from the left hand switchblock.  So you take them to drive two relays, and then take the outputs of the relays and feed them into the other side of where you cut.  You then have an easy high and low feed to then send off to your dash pad switches and then feed back to other relays for your fog, fill-in, and driving lights

FYI 92KK, here in .au, we're restricted to a maximum of 55/60W. So no higher wattage allowed. Though we do tend to use the higher output bulbs, but I have to admit, my +90% globes don't get any hotter than standard globes?

You are correct in that and we are also restricted tot he same wattage. But, having said that higher wattage bulbs are sold for off road use. If you use these ones 'off road' then they do get hotter....
