Amazing what happens when you wear a K Forum T shirt whilst on holiday. A potential forum member was asking me questions about his K1100 when he mentioned Taffy. Some of us including Rick G have mysterious "taffy" and a date painted inside our instruments.
Apparently Taffy, who passed away late last year, was a bike mechanic in the Canberra region and was responsible for servicing the Ks in the 1980s....including all the police bikes. Real name was Nev Williams and he was regarded as a "character" as he "test rode" many police bikes, especially if they were left in his care overnight.
The information I was given suggests that maybe the telltale "taffy" inside the instruments was one of his little jokes......graffiti artist and his tag?
