I managed to take an early ( wrong ) turn down a seemingly pleasant road, putting me back at Dungog , second attempt finally getting me to the rally site around 5.30 on saturday. with daylight savings , there was still ample time to set up lodgings, with some gracious forum assistance and had a good evening with fellow forum members at the rally. plenty of K talk, not sure if many issues were resolved.
enjoyed the trip , barring the 13km of gravel leading to the campsite. not the kindest of roads for highway runners such as K's. especially those fitted with appendages such as chairs and trailers.
Bella on the alert for" Germans"

Charlie , who was the RS rider near the front gate you caught up with? was that Mal.

always seems to be something up for offer.
this is a 16v RS with 1 1/2 seat chair.

A bit more expensive than BMsteves , sounds like Steve has a buyer.

this was a rugged outfit , belongs to a chap called "Beetle" , connected with the " bit on the side rally' and the OCR ( Off Centre Rally).
plenty of Karacter in these outback rigs.
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0210

this RS belonged to one of two victorians , the bike runs on historic plates , as they only need to be 25 years old , unlike us  , ours is 30.
the guys were not quite so young themselves , and were putting 1200km in one day, for the return journey, keen........
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0217

spent the evening with Rick , Sean and bella , Charlie , Gaz and Damo, the weather  was pleasant , warm ,with a clear sky  and plenty of banter amongst rallyists.

caught up with Hans and his red K100rt ( RR S1000) / HRD outfit.

sunday morning packup.
enjoyed the weekend guys , a few more creature comforts to sort out, thanks for your input on your earlier thread Damo.

Gerty doing well there. morning to you Charlie. safe ride home mate.
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0213

not much sign of activity around the Al site, obviously busy with chores , good work Al and Marie.
 Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0219
Al had a brief look in, and was looking a bit weary following the weekend proceedings , thanks to the BMW guys for their efforts.

Headed off with Gaz mid morning ,
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0214

via Gresford for lunch in the airconditioned comfort of the local cafe . the day was warming up quite considerably.
we even adopted a Virago 250 on the short run across to Greta. he was looking lonely.
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0215

it was then out of the cool comforts and onto Luskintyre and Greta.
It was very noticeably dry in the region. all the hillsides are browned off, uncommon for this area due to its usual high annual rainfall.
Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 Pic_0216

The dogbox travelled well behind the K.
experienced rear brake failure as I returned through Maitland , possible overheating, as they improved after pulling up for awhile. The day was quite warm mid to high 30's.
Prior to the failure, there were moments they felt like they were activating on their own , like pistons locking on . further investigations to take place.

I ended up using my mobile to capture some pics at the rally . so endeavoring to upload .

Good to see everyone there. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.

The mysterious scraping noise I had on Saturday didn't re-occur and the bike made it home with no bother. More investigation required.

did anyone get a chance to catch up with Malcoops , poor bugger must have been a bit lonely in that crowd.
there were at least a dozen various K's on display. good to see them still out and about.

I think I saw mal near the entrance ???

check here ed

https://www.facebook.com/groups/bmwtcnsw/permalink/794453877235253/

a nice little story

if you cant get there, ill copy and paste for you

quote from mal on fb

So as a BMW rally virgin I'd heard great story's of the Karuah rally from some well connected BMW riders, well an old cx 500 buddy of mine who had been coming to this rally for years.

So I phoned up an old mate of mine rob, who has owned several beemers over the years and we decided to do the rally, him on his rs 1200 and me on my k100lt.
I'd been to many cx 500 rally's and vintage jap rally's so I was interested to see the type of rider who is associated with this type of make of bikes.

More on that a bit later.

We headed off around 930 from robs place at Saratoga on the central coast and within 5 minutes the first of several interesting things to go wrong started, rob nearly lost his whole camping setup off he back of his rs around green point.I raised my eye brows ...I should have kept very quiet.
So we head off and decided to go trough to dungog in one hit ,great to get off the pacific killing machine and onto some great country roads where the old k bike showed me why I had purchased her, great Corning bike plenty of herbs and really comfortable ,except for the wind buffering the top of my head...easy fix.
We had a pleasant lunch in town, heaps of bikes around.
Rob says ,"now the beer situation malcolm",under control mate, we just go to camp setup and come back in a pick up some beers.
I did not read the instructions very well on the location of camp katihar did I?
35 minutes later, I'm not going to get beers mate! you can have the red and bourbon all to yourself. Every old football injury came to light on that dirt road and on a k bike it's not real pleasant but this was a good year I hear?
So after setting up ,much banter from rob, off we go again into town. He told everyone within ear shot what a knob I had been, tour leader he called me,,, pressure.
Pleasant beer at the pub, buy our supplies with ice,all good.
Riding along I loose rob...wtf where is he now!another BMW rider pulls over and tells me it's back there? What's back there, your pannier!!!!!!!, it's decided to part ways with my bike nearly taking rob out in the process.
I go back to find Dicko (I never call him rob), in the long grass pulling my pannier out......hardly a scratch.
So off we go again ..stuff knows how it came off........?
We get back to camp...lovely cold beers...yeah baby....I crack the pannier to find 12 beers swilling around in there own juices...wtf.
7 beers ok ,5 dead..there mine apparently. Dickso decides he can sell me one at mates rates, only joking here, I gave him my credit card details.
It's getting pretty bizarre by now, off for a swim,,,nice,my one beer in the lovely flowing creek ...great,dinners is up ,great looking forward to a nice steak sambo......none left.....fk,sausage sambo it's is with a bag of nuts to follow.
A walk around the camp saw a heap of late comers and our nice honey moon suite turned into pat pong back packers.
Got to meet john visser and his lovely wife, talk to a few of the owners but most were set in for the night.caught up with my old cx mate good to see him keeping up the cx standard of the wobberly boot.
Raffles ...never win nufing anyway, banter and sit down to our bourbon and a nice bottle of red. I've known Dickso for near on 25 years in our association with terrigal afl football club, been on one maybe two rides with him,but it was great spend some quality time with a quality person... He is one of the good guys as long as he has cold beer apparently.
The lads around us were well pissed by 1000 but friendly as and it was great to see all us bikes have one common thing in common, bikes.
330 am saw a Development of tv ringside taking place around my tent...stuff knows what was gong on.
I got up around 630 and wondered off towards he creek with dicko for an early wake up swim.
I got thinking, my old k bike does not get much over 200 km per tank and I was already up over 200 ...mmmmmm,red light had only just come on...tank lid off showed fk all petrol ......good god.
Luckily John visser is such a great guy and he gave me a few litre so of the golden liquid.....phew.
Packed up as rob has to go home to do his hair or something, rode in to town for a great feed then back to the central coast for a late lunch
Thanks for the great night to everyone ,maybe next time I will ride the old cx.....the k bike is handles it ok but it's a big unit for a dirt road, gem old footy bones of mine are just not the same these days.
Far cairn rally is on the list now but I think you might see us at a few of the central coast get togethers.

thanks Charlie , sounds like Mal had a ripper of a weekend.
Mal 340km from my LT, and as Charlie says, firm tyres will bounce you around a bit . I forgot to deflate mine after topping up for the trip to Wollongong,  so both the bike and trailer were hoping around like the Roos"s I spotted on the track to the rally.
put it down as a learning kerb , you will come to enjoy future rides / rallies.
plenty of good friendly riding companions here.

Hey guys,
Had a great time.
The k travelled real well but I need to get the mpg sorted out
Bit hard on the dirt and the front forks took a bit of a pounding
All round it was a great catch up, ride in on Friday next time for sure with beer .hhhaaaa ,
Funny thing is I'm renowned for been mr anal, carrying bloody everything under the sun on any camping weekend, it always mal will have one
But for some reason this time I did not panic or get paranoid just went with it...must be old age
Planning our next BMW adventure maybe the far cairn
The boxing match was pretty funny Karuah River Rally 2014 - Page 2 723598

Sounds like Seans experience into the rally, said he was drifting a bit. found myself doing much the same .
instead of rubber smoking , it was dust bellowing.

Your right Sean, a total load of #hit. they would have you believe they could do that with a tyre, but what a crock of #hit. no doubt they get plenty of you tube hits.
