So after much enquiry and deliberation I finally got to having them changed.

In the end it came down to what was available and it was....

Michelin Pilot Activ

New rubber on my K ! Pilot_10

(I had originally opted for Bridgestone BT45's but a 14 week wait !!!....jeez, they must have been growing them)

So they seem grand and I'm more confident on these than the 10yr old's that were on her !!!

Safe riding

Rod

I'm glad to see someone else who grabs the best deal at the time.

I did a ride with the ozzie crew on my RBike in November and the tyres where shot. It would not go round corners unless you where on the power and moved around on the road a lot. RickG tells me he saw the arse end step out 8" at one stage. I rang for Pirelli angels before the xmas run but when I arrived at the shop, they had no 18" rears, the liars, so I got a set of dunlops as that is what they had. New rubber is new rubber, gotta be better than old rubber Smile

Just took a rear BT45 out of my shed this morning for the RT.......Looks like a wise but as I have it 12 months.

I put a BT45 on the front in November and its all cracked, weird, being replaced. Wear pattern seems ok but the grooves all cracked. I had one on the LT and wasn't over impressed but when I put a new one on the RT it felt very confident.

Guess you will be out with us soon again....
As for 10 year old tyres, wow that's scary.

I know what you mean about corners Robin,
I had that slipping feeling last year heading onto the motorway on our way back the Ulster GP.
What fun on a bike the weighs hear 300kg ;-)

and 10 year old tyre's is scary indeed Olaf, and to think I've done about 4k on them since last year.

I guess I was lucky nothing broke......just shows what quality Macadam's are.

At the time I got her, the advice was no more than a year and change 'em

Next job is to get the stanchion's re-chromed so I think the easiest way is to get an exchange set from Motorworks, and new seals.

While I'm doing that I'll replace the seals in the brake reservoir and the fan motor.

Mind you it say's a lot for the machine that it runs beautifully even with those slight problems.

adios for now
Rod

Grip and durability for mid sized touring bikes (says on the picture).  Hmmmm. - never heard the LT called that before.  Very Happy

I put an avon azurro for the back and Bridgestone bt023 for the front. Both radial.

the arrived in a week from www.eiretyre.com

So far so good.  Pretty confident on them.  They do seem to tip in a lot on the corners. The peg will be scraping soon.

Hope to meet you at the next meetup, so I can compare K1100LTs.

Next job is to firm up the wobbly handlebars (bushing washers bought) , and replace all the instrument lights with LEDs (kit bought from flying duck over at www.k1100OG.com)

Well, our bikes certainly are not mid-sized, but our tyres are considered mid-size by modern standards.  I am fitting K1 wheels to my K1100LT in order that the wider rims will allow me a wide choice of modern radial tyres that at present I cannot fit to my machine.

Replace them after 1 year Hmmmmm well I suppose saying 3 years wasn't selling them enough tyres. Yes that is cynical I know but if there is one thing I have learnt in my 64 years is that I have not been anywhere cynical enough.
