Yesterday I checked the tappet clearance on my K75 and as it turned out, there is no need for adjustment. Between 0.15 and 0.20 on the intake side and between 0.20 and 0.25 on the exhaust.

While doing this I noticed that the cam chain is kind of loose on the cam wheels. There seems to be a play in the mechanism and the chain is slack, you can rotate one cam slightly before the other moves and visa versa. I read somewhere that the cam chain tensioner is controlled by a spring and oil pressure. Could this be normal when there is no oil pressure?

With only 40.000 km on the clock I wouldn´t have thought that there was anything wrong with the cam chain, but this strikes me as odd.

Please take a look at this video an tell me what you think:

I would replace the chain, to me it seems worn. Count the number of links and buy a good quality length of chain.

From what you are doing there it is not possible to say either way good/bad.
Check the blue arrow on this pic and if you can lift the chain away from the sprocket when there is load on the chain (the engine is turned over to a point where the chain top run is tensioned) then the chain needs replacing.
Is shows the chain is stretched and the links on the chain are longer than the sprocket.

The oil pressure only holds the tension on the bottom run of the chain to prevent it from flopping about and comming off the sprockets and wearing the sprockets. When the engine is running the tensioner has no bearing on how tight the top run of the chain is because the engine ALWAYS drives the cams.

Ive just a quick look at mine and done the test RickG recommends above with the help of the picture...

I assume there should be very little side ways movment of the chain i.e. the links should be held together rather 'solidly'?

Mine have about 4mm+ free play between links, side to side.....I cant imagine thats normal?

Not at all normal, how far does the chain lift from the sprocket?
