I know this is meant to be for bikes but this is the me renovation

Doctors have been rejuvenating various parts for years now and this time it was the spine's turn and this is day six so tomorrow I will rest then its back to walking up and down the corridor on a walking frame while they try to adjust my drug needs due to the
high dependence on strong pain medication.
I went to type this 4 hours ago but fell asleep. No wonder the junkies like this stuff.
Stand by for more boring episodes of the haze in my life

Best wishes for the hard work getting through the rehab.

Get well Rick, keep on it. Been there too but self inflicted at 23. All I can say is follow doctors orders....then wait for the physiotherapists sadists to get the muscles sorted. That's the hard work. Keep at it though, it does come round.

Hey Rick,

Sorry to hear you're laid up. Sounds like you're getting the treatment needed - could be worse, someone could have shoved you in the corner of the garage under a sheet and left you to seize up completely.

I guess there's quite a few of us on the forum with quite a few miles on the clock, but it is good to know that you can still get the parts when needed.

Wishing you a speedy return to bike riding health.

Sorry to hear that Rick.

On a bike, we always take care of the engine 1st then look after the frame.
Our body is the same, and if the doctors decided for a frame renovation, they must think that the engine is good for many more miles.

Thanks guys had a bit of a painful laugh there but it was worth it.
I look like getting transferred to Stanthorpe hospital for the continuing torture and be closer to home so Marg will only have a 10k ride instead of 170k run to visit.

If Inge K is to believed and his pic is the benchmark of all Norwegian nurses, next time I'm in need, I'm gonna go and be a european health tourist in Norway....oh wait, I can't.... Norway keeps voting not to join the European Economic Community - maybe this is the REAL reason - they just don't want to share with the rest off us riffraff. Talk about selfish!

Perhaps special dispensation for K riders in the order of the day?

Things are returning to normal got transferred to Stanthorpe hospital where the heat is non existent and the food considerable better, but Frankenzilla is the chief nurse and every man in the place is the enemy.
With the transfer came the inevitable stuff up in communications and they aren't giving me the correct drugs  and after several arguments I rang my local member who is also health minister and now all sorted and we get along fine.

Once the physioterrorists sadists come into it you are on the road to recovery. The doctors have decided they are pretty much done with you so you are put onto phase 2. Only problem I had was I thought all the pain was finished. Little did I know it was only starting. But, a few months in their hands release is like an escape from a concentration camp and you appreciate the freedom that recovery brings.

I don't mind saying it takes times for the muscles to build back up again and you do have to be careful not to overstretch them or you can do tendon damage. Do all the exercises you can and more and more, because the K is heavy and you need to be back in shape. Check out their attitude on swimming or water exercises because its great for bringing muscles back. Because there is no weight on the body the risk of damage is eliminated.

Hope they gave you plenty of drugs, just in case. Now the Qld police don't need to know about a "bikie" and drugs.

Well I'm home, it only took a week longer than anticipated.
Just about walking unaided and have to see the Toowoomba Quacks Friday for follow up so they may give me the silver bullets then but probably tell me what I am doing wrong after one of the physioterrorists told me to do it that way.

I needed some good news today and that is just what i needed.
For me, the first time this forum became more than a tech help thingo
was when Col went down, such was the support and good vibes to him,
from all over the world, I realized that we can laugh (very important)
and we can "cry" (very important). As men we have that reserve and don't admit to the hard stuff in life. Many times since Col's accident we guys have opened up
(a little) and are the better for it, I think.
Thanks Rick for taking us on Your Journey, I know I am a better man because you shared this experience with me.
I think the guys' sometimes black humour helped you too EH?

Thanks Floyd, 4 weeks it seems like 4 months with what has been going on.  I am through the mandatory infection part and walking unassisted and doing really well. I am actually walking straight for the first time in 20 years.
I deliberately didn't ask when I could ride my bike, that way they don't tell me something I don't want to hear but by the way things are progressing I think Nindigully is the target and then the Alpine Rally in June.

Good to see you on the mend.

I think easier to ride a K than fly to Europe, though it would be nice to see you over this part of the world so we can fill you with Irish beer and bullshit folklore. You would probably enjoy it.

Would be nice to see you back on the K but do look after the body properly. Having a target is good but don't push it too quick, your first outing will be extremely tiring due to the way the body runs down from being inactive so be prepared for that and dont be disappointed. Its all part of the rejuvenation process. I had a bad one at 23 and the loss of strength was huge, took ages to come back. 35 years on I am sure the effects now would be more dramatic. The physiotherapy is really important, so you don't tear ligaments or do muscle or ligament damage.

Good to read of your progress Rick. The path to recovery is peppered with frustrations but you'll get through. As my Grandmother cautioned us..."Make haste slowly" ! That's Irish logic, hope its not lost on you!

One more word of wisdom, make sure someone's taking care of the carer. It's a long haul for Marge too.

Best wishes.

You're aware it's the dirt year this year?  Site in the Brindabellas, not on the Snowy Mtns Hwy. I'm probably going, if you want a part way stop you're welcome here.
