Mark, John

Safe travels, its not bad down here, seems we are starting out at much the same time. Looking forward to seeing you!!

I think we may stay on motorway and take N80 down from Port Laoise if its anyway frosty.

Sadly Will won't be with us tomorrow, he sent me a message this evening that his son has flu.

Olaf

Forecast says 3-5°C for Portlaoise area and 20km/h wind. 4 wheels would certainly be more comfortable but weather is acceptable even for 2 I reckon.

Update: left a thermometer on the ground, it shows 0°C at ground level. That means 4 wheels for sure....

What can we say?

An excellent day and 14 of us in glorious sunshine and a great breakfast along with some very welcome new faces. Thanks again to Stradbally Fayre for an excellent brunch.

The day started frosty and only favoured bikes for those of us who were near a motorway as there was lots of ice about. When we met at Cashel the conditions were more suited to ice skating.

Comberjohn's proposal to travel by car rather than miss out if weather was against us was inspired and added to the day. However as is usual he arranged perfect sunshine to overcome the frost and ice.

Some nice ideas are floating for some outings during the year. Patricks Weekend seems an option!!

Glad I was able to make it today, nice to see old and new faces. Turned out to be a perfect day for the bike, even if it was an Airhead.

A chilly ride to Stradbally  Blizzard but vastly improved on the way back home as  3K's  Surprised-o: made their way back to Dublin. A fine end to a good year and many thanks to Olaf for bringing the Evolution of the K t-shirts that he had sent from Australia.

A happy New Year to all  Irish Eccentrics Christmas Brunch 2013 - Page 2 502531 and I am looking forward to a few good runs in 2014

Where would the IE group be without Olaf's initiatives: pushing us for the meet, organising the T-shirts, supplying the Christmas pud, and even managing to be the first to write a review! Great stuff Olaf and many thanks. Thanks also to the two Johns for laying on the weather and providing the photographic proof of an enjoyable excursion. Here's to the next meet up, and best wishes to all for 2014
Stephen

Happy New Year to the Eccentrics.
A good meet up yesterday and hope everyone got home safely. Just heard that my brother in law was out with his cycling club this morning and hit a patch of black ice. Broken hip! Irish Eccentrics Christmas Brunch 2013 - Page 2 Icon_eek
No joke when you are 60.
Think our next outing looking like St Pat's Day in March. Plenty of time to start your grovelling to She Who Must Be Obeyed.

Great turnout and well done to everyone, great comraderie and conversation. I was 4 wheeled as I was travelling across country but probably would not have risked the bike as the roads around home were icy.

Big up to Olaf and Ed for the T shirt. Very nice quality and design.

I'm looking forward to the next meet already.

Will

And I'd like to chime in with "Thank Allah for heated grips and heated waistcoats".

It's been a long time since I had to break the ice on the saddle before I could get on the bike. And having the heated grips at the highest setting has never happened before.

Still, it was a great day, sat like a jewel between the storms, rain, trees down, and high winds (and power outages) we've been having both before and after.  I don't know what John is sacrificing to get such good weather on the day, but keep it up!.

(For those not in the Emerald Isle, we have had horrendous storms over Christmas, with lots of wind damage, flooding, trees down, thousands of homes without power etc.

I'm still amazed the we got 14 people together on such a day. When I was in the (cough, cough) club, we would be lucky to get a handful.

Here's looking forwards to 2014, and many more runs (hopefully not on a transalp this time, but on the 1100 LT).
