Choke plates is mounted in the rubber sleeves above the TB's.

You need cut the four oetiker clamps above the TB's, disconnect the hose between the plenum and air filter housing, and crank vent hose at the rear of the plenum.....
to remove the plenum.

Could be a good idea to get new rubber sleeves and crank vent hose before starting....
as these get brittle and cracks after years in service, then leading to air leaks.

The clamp at the rearside of the plenum is a bit hard to reach.
In my opinion the best tool to use is a short 1/4" ratchet, a medium extension
and a 7 mm socket.

Good luck!

I'll be interested to hear how you get on Darren, Mine's restricted. I rode it for a while without a restrictor before deciding it was better to stick to the letter of the law. After fitting it I would say it made very little difference in the lower rev range due to the bike's torque but it tops out at 6k rpms. (Still enough to get me to the magic 160kph on the run to Antrim but I'm not saying on which side of the border inlet manifolds 652573 )

Yep- to keep it within the new EU regs for power to weight ratio. I let my licence lapse and had to retake my test. Restrictor has to stay on for 24months from test pass date..

In this case i think it was our own home-grown iddiots (sic).

In more enlightened countries, like the UK, there was a restriction for two years after you passed your test, but the ability to go directly to a full powered bike if you were over 24, and took further training. I think it is called "direct access"

The Irish politians, in there wisdom Shocked ommitted that part of the new licencing, so there was no ability to go directly to unrestricted. My mate had to resit his test after a lapsed licence, and is stuck on a restricted bike for 2 years as well. He's 48.

I think they have now introduced it, but too late for anybody already passed their test.

Fortunately for me i passed my bike test in 1970 (despite falling off half way through ) and was then free to ride what ever i wanted. I was out of biking for about 10 years and took a "back to biking" course through choice (and to please the wife) it was not compulsory but well worth the effort.

Uh, not being from an EU member country, how the hay would anyone know if you had these in place or not?

I'm also chuckling that an old K100 is considered to have enough power to weight to qualify. The max power to weight ratio must be awfully low.

The police can take your bike off you and bring it to a test centre to Dyno test it for power output. (Usually only happens if you go past them on the back wheel or do something equally silly.)

However most people fit them for insurance reasons, myself included. If the bike doesn't conform to the regs then you are not licensed to ride it and consequently you are not insured !

The old brick is a excellent candidate for these kits because the low down torque means that the lost power is only felt in the very upper end of the range. I've had no problems exceeding 160kph/100mph on mine....but of course only on a private road! inlet manifolds 652573

My mate, who just passed his test, rang his insurance company to tell them.

Their reply was "thats nice, but you know you have to leave the restrictor in for two years or you won't be covered".

He had been tempted to take it out until that conversation. If they are telling you, then they will check if you have an accident. And no restrictor - no insurance. That ain't worth the grief.

Geez the EU is like looking at a contemporary industrial society through one of those wavy circus mirrors where everything is twisted and distorted. I still shake my head at my one opportunity to tour in Europe on my US registered K100RS. The tires I had on it then, Dunlop K291's weren't legal for use in Europe because some stuffy drone at the TUV didn't sign off on their use on my year make and model of BMW. Eff that crap. The TUV would come un effing glued at a couple of my bikes, like the blue K bike in my avatar and a breathed on Harley Street Rod with XR-1200 wheels. Can't put the TUV approved tire on either of those bikes any more.

Wow I have been complaining about the law makers in Aus with their stupid low speed limits on roads with bends and speed  cameras everywhere, but restrictors in an old k, sounds like the insanity is as bad or maybe worse over there.  Mad AB

Well when in Queensland the idiot who signs of on all the motorcycle related legislation so that it can be used in law openly says he doesnt think bikes have a place on our roads and cant ride and doesnt have a licence then there is little hope.

Having lived in many countries around the EU but mostly England, I can assure you that many things that the UK government blame the EU for are nothing to do with the EU. Besides riding bikes I also fly a microlight (ultralite to the US readers) and the rules for bikes or microlights are much more slack in France than in the UK.
Bikes have no annual test and no tax here. You can do any modifications that you like. The US member who was talking about the TUV not liking his rear tyre is not talking about EU rules, but German rules. I can put any make or size of tyre that I want on my or the wifes bike.
As for the microlight, there is no airworthiness check, no medical required for the licence and no permissions needed to fly from your own land.

Very true.

It doesn't help when bodies such as MAG go and alarm people by publishing scare stories (probably to boost their membership) such as the fairly recent campaign that alleged the EU was about to ban owners from any changes from OE spec whatsoever (the EU discussion was about the power modifications being made to mopeds by kids).
