I started my k100rs 16v  today after a month. It started right away and i left it on idle for 20 mins or so and switched it off and when i tried to start again the starter begun to crank but acted as if disconnected and tuk tuk  solenoid sounds and when i tried it a few times now it acts like the battery is dead completely. but i can see the lights going on but it looks like it didn't have enough power to start the motor. I thought that leaving 20 mins on idle might charge the battery wont it?? i am confused, it the battery really dead or some other issue??

When you started the bike did you rev it at all so that the red charge light went out? If you just hit the start button and leave it running it wont charge the battery at all but will drain it.

Worst thing that you could do to an engine is to start it and leave it to idle. I believe that the handbook even says not to do that.

Voltage means very little.  Take your battery into any auto parts store to ask them to "load test" it which they will do for free.  (They do it for free because it helps them sell batteries.)

You can jump start it from a car or bump start it.

I can jump one with the output from a 6A battery charger - connected to the battery terminals, not through the Powerlet outlet.

I have no idea what you mean by "12V adapter" but whatever you use to jump it you'll need something that puts out enough amps and wire thick enough to support those amps.

Jumping it from a car with jumper cables is probably easiest.  Just don't let the 12V from the jumper cables come in contact with the frame or other metal parts of the bike.  It's usually a good idea to hook the positive cable up first.  You can put the ground of the jumper cables on the left side transmission mounting bolt and it will work since the starter motor grounds to the transmission housing.

When the bike is idling it is probably running the battery down because at idle the alternator does not put out enough to charge the battery so the battery is steadily discharging.

If you have a US market bike, is the headlight permanently on? If so then the alternator will not put out enough current at idle to run the headlight, fuel pump, engine management etc, and charge the battery at the same time.
