I recall seeing the mirror tethers in the Cycle Gadgets catalogue for RT's and LT's and thinking that's a good idea I should make some up for the K Bike as there are several how to's on the net but it was another of those round-tuits that I seem to specialise in.

Suffice it to say reversing into the garage down the slope that leads into the garage whilst keeping well clear of SWMBO's car I just clipped the entry and dislodged the mirror which fell to the ground and yes the glass was broken. A trek to the BMW agent relieved the stitching of my wallet of some tension and I fitted the new mirror.

Accepting that I would be unlikely to make them I ordered a set from the good people at Cycle Gadgets and as they say fitted the protection to prevent mirror disaster as the horse galloped smartly down the road.
Regards,
K-BIKE

Sorry about resurecting this old thread I found on a search, but Cycle Gadgets is now closed. Anyone with more info on these "mirror tethers" mentioned?

Also, what product should be used to glue the painted back cover to a RT mirror?

thanks,
Wayne

I used windscreen bonding glue, horrible black sticky stuff. I don't think they will come apart again too easy!!!!! I also partly filled the joint between front and back with it and smoothed it off for a better finish. Looks good after the mirror pods have been painted. Cool

Old ocky straps (bungies) tied with a knot at either end works a charm, cheap as chips, too.

does anyone havea photo of how these look?
I have looked at mine with thoughts about doing same as my right hand mirror doesn't seem to be in there 100% but i reckon it would be a bit of an eyesore... but hey... it's probably better than a smashed mirror after it has fallen off at 100kph and flattened by the truck following you

Thanks, I was thinking about maybe some heavy fishing line with a little washer tied at each end. But the next question is where to run it? I suppose I'd drill a little hole in the mirror housing and in the fairing? Probably in the middle of the triangle of attachment bolts to keep it as non-obtrusive as possible?
