Hi, just got an old 1985 k100RS  new to me, 21850 miles. Filthy dirty , idle at 3300rpm, handled horrible. Price was good $1550. I adjusted the Idle, replaced lots of cracked vacuum leaks, put more air in the  13 year old tires and now it runs good and handles great. "course I'm not going to ride on 13 yo tires so got some new kendas $130 set at motorcycle superstore . com, great sticky tires.Question

You have to have them online already - on a site like photobucket - before you can post them here...

Hi Alan, from one retired gentleman to another welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great deal was done and once you get it back into as new condition you will know almost every nut and bolt by name.

I've had 2001 k1200lt, 2004 R1150 rt, 2000 r1100r, 2003 1150GS, just sold my 2006 Goldwing and now have the 1985 K100RS which I think is the best, as long as it keeps running. My next bike will be the C1 electric bike from litmotors.com very cool 200 mi range 0-60 in 6 sec. twin gyroscopes. Check it out.

If you do the work your self they are a very rewarding bike to own and ride.
If you need any help almost every problem has been done to death but if you are like me and cant search a forum for anybodies money then ask away. So far as far as I know we have a 100% success rate on getting them running.
In the mean time go to our portal page and have a read through the thread "so you just bought a BMW K100 what now" and there is a heap of good info for a first time owner.

Hey Alan I have yet to hear of a forum bike refusing to run for any length of time...sure the bikes can be cunning and sly but we have the measure of them....personally all my troubles have been easy to find and fix....and often just a dodgy electrical connector ..this is where the cunning bit comes in..good luck mate you will be addicted very soon.

Here it is Alan:

It looks more like it's a K100C with an after-market handlebar fairing to me but clean and tidy though.

It's always a mystery how these bikes turn up with such few miles (kilometers?) on the clock.  Well, another's loss is the new owner's gain.  Fix 'em and ride the wheels off 'em.  Put a smile on your face!
I had a wonderful breakfast ride on my 1985 K100RS Sunday.  It left a warm glow on me for the rest of the day!  Very Happy

Good looking bike! I bought an 85 with 23K miles on it a couple of months ago. I have been cleaning it up and replacing hoses etc. too. Had it out on the road for a little bit but I'm not quite done with the "details" - can't wait to take it out on a real ride. First time I have ever owned or ridden a motorcycle so this is all new stuff to me!
