Hi

I was on my 3,600 mile European tour (see K100 meeting tour) when my daughter, who produces a medical journal, sent me this article on medical problems arising from motorcycling.

Here is a link to the article that is now on the forum's website.

http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/Medical/Motorcycle_medical_advice.pdf

I hope it gives some insight into potential problems and their alleviation.

As a result of reading the article, I will be
- Using compression socks as my motorcycle socks (Nora Batty here I come)
- Loose weight Sad
- Rest arrogantly with my feet up (now the recommended way to rest) after motorcycling. Very Happy
- continue to do strange foot exercises as I ride. Exclamation

Goes back to the recommendation to stop for petrol at about 120 miles or an hour and a half on long rides. Time for gas, proverbial water and of course a walkabout and snug fitting but loose gear. Touring bikes less at risk because of the less crouched up seating position. Now we know why some bikes are designed to make you stop for gas after 70 miles ....

I can just see a crowd of riders discussing the virtues of moisturisers and stockings at our next camping weekend. Medical article on motorcycling 161205

Seriously, though, an interesting write-up.
Paul.

It is a very important write up as some of us are given to long trips. Going back to the regular stops etc .Lots of stops for photos and things is good too, but what of doing a straight 300 or 400 mile trip? I suspect leathers are a bigger problem because of more snug fit.

I passed it on to my son because he just finished medical school and has a keen interest in cardiology as well as the bikes. He is constantly 'looking out for me' as he puts it so I am sure he will have some 'piece of advice' for me......
